This is such a wonderful story. How blessed you are to have your Grandfather's watch to show to your grandchildren...not to mention the valuable lessons. Thank you for sharing.

Beautiful. Unless the lesson is taught and carried on through succeeding generations, the message is wasted, the lesson no longer taught. A message worth teaching is a message worth passing on. Thereby many are taught. I love this story/poem. As a grandfather, I try to do the same, my wife says; "No one wants to hear those old stories again." The kids and grand kids know them well, I have done my job.

Nomi, you and I both know that they do love the stories, that is the value. "the jewels" of an old mans crown.

I certainly want to think so.

Very sweet and I love how it ends - the continuation of family wisdom... I hope this is non-fiction.
One suggestion. Watch the line endings and end on a strong word
I see this little lad, standing in (add "in" to the next line)
tall on a stump, as though he (bring "was part" up to this line)
"I have to do my part to bring (bring "have the hands" up to this line)
just tighten up your chin and (add "and to the next line)

I like how the watch is passed on to another generation. Your free verse form tells a wonderful tale that is heart warming. Grandparents can have such an impact on grandchildren. I like Grandpa's message of keep going like his watch. Best wishes for the contest.

I love this, because it reveals how legends grow from stories and tales that have been passed down through the generations, I can remember my mother telling how potatoes would grow in my ears if I didn't wash them, or "cleanliness was next to godliness," which of course isn't true, except in a metaphorical sense. Beautifully written, very clever, and articulately written and a great free verse, and a very good theme, well done, good luck, blessings, Roy

Roy, life has its little treasures that stick with you, these lessons are what I believe the scripture means that grandchildren are the jewels in an old mans crown.

Blessings and thank you for sharing this wonderful poem about your Grandpa and his treasured watch. I could almost see his wrinkled hand winding it while teaching you that wonderful life lesson. I pray you do well in the contest.

This is a lovely poem that gloifies your grandfather. The photo of what I assume is his old watch is a perfect choice. The end of the poem is precious, sharing your grandfather's stories with your grandchildren. Best of luck in the contest.

I think it is true that the older you get the wiser you get. I always enjoy listening to my grandparents as they have had so much more experience than I have. I enjoyed reading this piece and I thought it was really well written. Good luck in the contest!
