This is a really entertaining and informative piece as well. Again I really liked the poem that you included at the beginning which grabs your attention. Another well written chapter, Sandra!

Thank you so much, Jacob, for another lovely review. I'm so pleased you are still following my ABC book. N is up next. That's a fun one too. :)) Have a lovely day, my friend. Sandra xx

This is a very interesting animal to study. Eating scorpions is quite unusual, but the meerkats must think they are tasty morsels. The pictures draw even more interest.

They aren't the only ones who eat scorpions, Rebecca, the Chinese do as well! Who'd have guessed that?? lol. Thank you for reading and giving me your thoughts on the letter, M. Have a nice day, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Hello Sandra. There is a series on one of the TV channels here called "Meercat Manor." They are interesting little critters. I love watching them on guard. One stands tall and his head is always checking the neighborhood.

I haven't seen that, but I'm going to see if I can find it. A few who have read this part have mentioned it. Sounds like my cup of tea! Thank you for reading my letter M, Robert, I'm glad you like the meerkats, they are fun to watch. Have a lovely week, my friend. :) Sandra xx

Very informative and I hope interesting for a 12-year-old. I think your book would be very good reading for that age level of a bright child. They look like prairie dogs, dominant in Kansas. I have a 13-year-old grandson, very bright, BUT? Get them away from their devices and iPhones and encourage reading. I really worry about them.

Thank you for your kind words, Becky, I appreciate them a lot. You are right about the iPhones, etc, they are ruining a child's basic growing up. What damage they face in adulthood, only time will tell. Have a lovely day, my friend. :)) Sandra x

The scorpion that little guy is eating is almost as big as he is! Meerkat never entered my mind, even tho I watched Meerkat Manor for years. They're feisty, fascinating little creatures. Great choice that I never would have guessed. What about N? Nightingale? I can't think of too many.

I've never seen Meerkat Manor, I'll have to see it we have it in the UK. They really are interesting to research, with surprising facts coming out. Thanks, Cindy, for reading this one. I think you will be very surprised at the letter N. :)) It definitely isn't the Nightingale. Have a lovely day, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

You should be able to get Meerkat Manor on your computer. It's on Animal Planet. What other N's are there? Nematode? Why not? Kids love worms.

I think they are just about the cutest little guys! Very interesting facts you've given us. I didn't know they require little water. I'm not surprised at they problem solving. I've always said animals are smarter than most give them credit for.

I think they're smarter, too, Yvonne. Thanks for reading about them, and for sharing your thoughts. I think everyone loves these little rascalls, so I had to use them for my letter M. Guess what N will be! Have a lovely day, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

a Nile crocodile? Sounds like something you or I would think of. 8-)

No! Lol. So far I've had three nightingales, so at least you've come up with something different. I don't think anyone will guess this one. :))

I know there's something called a numwat (sp.) but that's just off the top of my head. I don't really know what it is.
reply by the author on 22-Jun-2020
Hmm, I had to go and look. Numwat doesn't come up, but Numbat does. I'd not heard of them, they are sort of stripey animals that live in Australia. If there is a numwat, it isn't that, or the numbat! Sorry. :))
reply by damommy on 22-Jun-2020
Well, I wasn't sure about the actual name. That must be it. So I still didn't guess. I'll have to wait and find out.

Yes, because I'm not telling!! Just read your story, I nearly wet myself laughing!

Enjoyed all the fun information and your well metered poem was delightful. It is surprising how some in the animal world can eat venomous things but humans also eat some venous things, too, like the lion fish, or pufferfish, prepared correctly of course! So glad that the meerkat is not endangered.

I don't think I'll ever eat those fish, just the idea that they haven't been prepared right puts me right off! lol. Thank you, Helen, for reading this one. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Half way through, now! :)) Have a lovely day. :)) Sandra xx

These are just the most beautiful little creatures and I enjoyed a series on TV about them some time ago. It might have been called Meerkat Manor. Try as I might, I couldn't find any nits. :( lol
Have a great day

You have made my day, Judy, not being able to find any nits. Lol. I'm glad you enjoyed reading about them. There is so much I could have added, but it would have been too long to go in the book. Have a lovely day, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Wow, Sandra, I have learned so much that I did not know about the Meerkats. Who would have thought about their tunneling or the rooms? I certainly did not know about their ears, getting dirt in them would be terrible. And their diet is most interesting, especially what they do to scorpions to de-venom them. Very interesting and super educational. Well done. Hugs, blessings and smiles.
