This was a fun read. I have often thought meerkats were quite a lot like prairie dogs. I read how prairie dogs can be very territorial and competitive sometimes and treat baby prairie dogs the same way meerkats go after other baby meerkats. But hopefully they all mature eventually and are willing to protect others. The scorpion details were fascinating.

They are somewhat like the prairie dogs, but I think they are more cuddly than the skinny meerkats! Lol. I think they have some cute ways, though. I like the way they stand up straight, keeping a lookout while the others hunt for food.
Thank you, my friend, for another lovely review. I'm so pleased you enjoyed reading about them. Enjoy the rest of your week! :)) Sandra xx

I'm not surprised that they're not on the 'endangered' list, these guys seem to have it sussed! This was another wonderfully interesting chapter to your book. With a plethora of information, and beautifully written, you introduce each species in a way that engages the reader's attention from start to finish. Well done!

I read that you were making this for your grandson, so I grabbed my 6 year old cousin to read this with me. She enjoyed learning about Meerkats and I think your grandson will too! I love this idea and it's very educational too!

Thank you so much for the six lovely stars, and your wonderful comments. My grandson is 12 years-old, and doesn't know about this book yet; I'll be giving it to him when it's published. I've been writing adventure stories for him, and this one will be a surprise. (I hope) I'm delighted you enjoyed reading it. If your six year-old cousin liked it, that is very encouraging.
Welcome to the site, I'm sure you will make lots of friends here. Have a wonderful day! :)) Sandra xx

Hi Sandra. "To get rid of this, our cunning meerkats have learned that rubbing the scorpion in the sand will remove any remaining trace of it. How cool is that!"

That is very cook indeed, Sandra.

I like reading these informational posts like this because I am always anxious to learn and always have been. Good job, my friend.

i will stay tuned for more. : ) Bob

Thank you so much for reading my letter M, Bob. I was once told that the only things you can take with you when you die, is knowledge and love. So, like you, I intend to continue learning for as long as I'm able.
Have a lovely day, my friend. :)) Sandra.

-Good artwork, poem, and photos, except for the grubs ):
-A good choice for the letter M.
-A well written piece about the Meekats, Sandra.
-The part about the scorpions was interesting, but
I wouldn't want to deal with those!
-I didn't know they were as evolved as this,
by solving problems, working as a group, and even
having an extra burrow for emergencies; that
is good thinking and a good strategy.
-The cubs are cute and I like your 'unfriendly' comment:)
-It seems they are doing well as a species, but don't
have an easy job of it. Very well done!

I'm gradually catching up. Having read L for Lemurs now, I'm glad I had a six for it. Loved both the fun facts and the way you presented them. Congratulations, too, on the publication of Eric's fourth book.
Meerkats are definitely one of my favourite creatures. Glad to hear they're not endangered!
I think I'd starve if I lived in the desert.
Those ear flaps would sure come in handy when Wendy's watching her favourite soapie, and I'm trying to edit my book! Still, turning my hearing aids off comes a close second.
Looking forward to N. Numbat, perhaps?

Thank you so much, Tony, for another of your lovely review and another shiny six! I'm glad you enjoyed the lemurs, thank you for reading that one.
When it comes to ear flaps, I'm the same, I turn my hearing aids off when Graham is watching his football, lol.
At least you know, if you're lost in the desert, to look for some juicy grubs, and they will not only serve to stem your hunger, but also do for your thirst! Hmm. I'm staying home!!
I've had three nightingales, and two numbats so far. Wrong!!
Thank you again, my friend. :)) Sandra xx
Thank you for the congrats on Eric's fourth book. How far have you got with your editing? Eric's books were very short in comparison to yours, and after having it edited on FS, and 3 of my friends who are teachers in the senior schools here, and a few extra read throughs from me, I was happy to publish. Friends can be so nice to have around, bless them. You had a head start on me, being a teacher. Good luck, and I hope you will let us know when it's up on Amazon, or has been snapped up by a publisher/agent. xxx

Thank you. I feel that I have just attended a maser class on this amazing species One thing emerges clearly, God gives to each of his creations, what they need to survive, none more so than man.

Yes, He does. It has amazed me just how God's animals are all given the tools, and the intelligence, to survive, even in the harshest climates. It comes as no surprise though. He is wonderful.
Thank you so much, Nomi, for your lovely comments on my letter M. I really appreciate them. And a big thank you for the six stars! I hope you will join me with my letter N. Have a lovely day, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Hello Sandra,
Another great informative chapter in your book of unusual creatures.
They look somewhat like prairie dogs in the mid-west US.
I think I would starve if I was merely a kat, as the only food I could eat is the fruit and plants.
I think I would like to have ears that close too. I can think of many great uses for such a wonderful ability.
You have a great knack for choosing animals with Zing.
Well done
Robert
PS. Nice poem too!

I'm not going to ask what uses you could find if you could close your ears, LOL. I just turn my hearing aid off! :)) Sometimes they are very useful.
You're right about the prairie dogs, while researching the meerkats, it said that the prairie dog is America's meerkat. I think the prairie dog is more rounded, while the meerkat is sleeker. I'm sure there are a few more differences, but they are both very intelligent and have their own language.
Thank you so much for the six stars, Robert, and another lovely review. (that made me laugh) I'm half way through the alphabet now. The N is next. That's a good one! Have a lovely day, my friend. :)) Sandra xx
