Lovely--heartrending and heartwarming both. Beautifully written, elegant imagery: the shooting star/summer metaphor earns your stars in itself. Cheers. LIZ (unkept s/b unkempt)

Back with congrats!

What a touching story, Sally. I enjoyed reading it although it is poignant. You told is admirably. I believe in guardian angels. Your words flow well and are descriptive. I could see everything you mentioned as all of it unfolded. The dialogue was well done and believable between mother and child and the angel and them. Thanks for sharing. Take care.
Respectfully, Jan

Beautiful, Sally, beautiful! It was a precious story, very much in line with the whimsical tales from Ireland, at least what I know of them.

Even if my Maiden Name is Shannon, I would have given you a 6 regardless. It was touching and reminded me of the TV series, Touched By an Angel, a few years back.

Take care,
Rhonda

Well, how in the world did I pick your maiden name? This story has a new meaning. I absolutely love that name. It everything Irish. I'm so honored by your review once again. Thank you for the wonderful response to this and generous stars. You made my day!!

Touched by an angel... now there is something worth watching.

Thank you, Sally, much love to you!
It is funny how you chose Shannon. That?s what I had planned to name a second girl if I had one. I had two boys instead, lol.

Well, I've known two Shannons, one boy and one girl. They both looked alike now that I think about it. I have three sons and three grandsons and only one living granddaughter, Sophia.
Esther Grace passed away at birth in 2013. :(
How about you? Boys a plenty?

I have one daughter and two sons.
My daughter has two girls and one boy.
My middle child has 2 living boys and a daughter who died not long after she was born, so we have that in common.
My youngest Boy just turned 30, and hasn?t gotten married or had children, lol.
Thanks for sharing your family with me.

Ah, we do have much in common. My oldest and youngest are not married. My middle son is a pastor, happily married with all the children. ;)

How nice! Wonderful to have a pastor in the family!

In a world full of suffering for an endless variety of reasons, you manage to come up with so many heartwarming stories of the power of love, which inspire us all to keep plodding on. Here, the spiritual element is obvious, but it is an endearing theme running through ALL your stories.

Here again, your descriptions are vivid enough for a reader to feel present in each scene, the dialog is plausible for the situation, and the characters seem real in every respect that matters.

Yes, I believe there really are angels among us, with or without wings, based on how their words and deeds benefit everyone around them. This Story is just one example of what such a person can do to positively affect lives in need of help at a critical moment.

I can imagine Shannon growing up to carry on Dr. McGrath's work some day.

Superb, aptly illustrated, and well accompanied by the music video.

Thank you very much for the lovely review and generous stars, dear Mike. I'm honored once again. I'm so pleased you enjoyed this addition to my other stories in these theme. (The first two were in a themed flash under 500 words.) It's nice to just write unrestricted. Again, thank you for your kind attention and detailed review.

You are most welcome, Sal. Here and in your Letters from Heaven's Gateway series, you show how love and faith overcome both loneliness and the fears most people have regarding death. By doing so, you raise hopes and strengthen readers' will to persevere through today's difficult times. Thus, it is no wonder so many readers love your stories.

I liked your "shooting star" analogy and picture of the Irish countryside. I looked forward to finding out why the doctor was considered an "angel". And I was pleased to learn about all of his generosity and even arranging for an adoption. Thank you for sharing his fine example- Joan

This is a lovely story told with just the right emotions and a great message. We can all be an angel to someone every day of the week if we just open our eyes and heart. Well done.

Hey Sally, I want to thank you for your kind words. If I knew I'd be back on F.S. so soon, I wouldn't even have mentioned being ill.

Now, to your posting. This is extraordinary - what a story. Your description is top notch as is the character development. Death is a part of life - don't we all know it. Mentioning that her teddy bear had only one eye is such a nice touch to give it authenticity.

You put so much effort into this writing and it shows. The best way I can acknowledge that is by awarding you the extra star. Hugs, Lou

Dear Lou, you are so kind! Thank you so much for all the kind compliments inside this. Wow. I am honored. Seeing stars here!!

I don't ever care if you mention that you don't feel well because I care about you. (I've been praying for everyone on FanStory that's not been feeling good.) I've had shingles, so I'm right there with you.

Sending you my best today as always,

I love this paragraph. It seems to be the crux of the tribute: "Assorted tales blew on these warm winds, and with them, the Angel of Ireland, Dr. Sedrick McGrath. His wings were seldom seen for he kept them tucked inside. But an angel, nonetheless."
This among many others is great descriptive imagery: "She did not walk, however, she marched; Teddy dangling by one arm." This is very poignant. Very believable in all its detail. I have to give it A+

What a wonderful story. I could just see that little girl walking along with her teddy bear dangling by one arm. The Angel of Ireland knew just when to come. He made the mother's passing easier by knowing Shannon would be taken care of.

A truly beautiful story. While there is sadness in it, it also contains joy and hope . I love how the elements play out. It absolutely touches the heart. Its inspirational lesson of faith and caring is something we all could learn.
