An outstanding poem with a sublime message; it is said that even a smile is an act of kindness or charity; sadly, we are witnessing the end of times; enjoyed your beautiful poem; we must cherish each moment for the sake of humanity.

I like this very much Jesse. It waxes philosophical...asking that eternal question as to what is reality? That which we personally perceive? Some universal parameters met? I like that you seem to be tilting toward trusting that what YOU feel is, if not reality, is certainly the most important to your life experience. I agree with that. I used to think of contentment as a rock--a mighty boulder of assured happiness. I know treasure each tiny pebble of kindness and affection that washes up from the sea and touches me. This is how I interpret your poem... Very nice piece!--Karenina

Hello Karenina. I am thankful for your philosophical discussion on what constitutes 'reality' and of your nod toward life experience, which I refer to as trusting my gut. My gut isn't always right, but it is a good starting point as to how to interpret the seeming ability to turn off and on kindness, as if on a light switch. I appreciate your view of pebbles of kindness washing up on the shore of life. Thank you for that insight. And, thank you for this thoughtful review and excellent rating. I apologize for not replying sooner.
    Have a nice weekend.
    Take care,

Sometimes it does seem like simple acts of kindness are not seen as of often as they should be. Kindness, even just a smile, can mean a lot to people in times like these especially.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

I think one is kind or one is not, I think it's more likely that's the way it should bro but perhaps in this day and age, that has changed. I'd certainly Think is disturbingly different from that. Beautifully written Jesse, you've done a marvellous job with this. Well done. Great verse in triplets, blessings, Roy

Jesse,

You did an outstanding job in the penning of this very insightful poem. It is the very small gestures of kindness that can make a difference in someone's life. Thanks for sharing a most profound read.

Blessings...Portia

Nicely done for the events of the times we live in. Your question is very valid and I understand your doubts that this lack of kindness might just be your own interpretation, but I guarantee you that your views are correct.
When I was younger (I know people hate sentences that begin like that - but it's true!) - "please" and "thank you" were the rule. People didn't cut you off on the freeway just because they were more important than you, even though you see them right next to you a few minutes later. People stood aside for a baby stroller, smiled at passerby, and were generally nicer to each other. Old people were offered seats, pedestrians weren't honked at in crosswalks.
Today, because everyone is always in a hurry and they don't want to miss a text message, they have utter disregard for the rest of the human race. Of course there are still nice people - but they are very confused about what happened to this country, no, make that this planet.
I believe what you are talking about is called "compassion" and I wonder if like the Grinch - hearts have actually gotten smaller and less able to offer that gentle care.
Thank you for you poem - sorry if I rambled here, but it hit home.

A beautiful reflection of the little things in our lives and that we can give to others that mean so much... love the notion of 'holding hands as long as they will reach' - as long as we need them to! ;) :) Good to hear from you, sir - have missed your introspective pen! ;) Hope you are settled and comfortable there on the West Coast! :) Thanx for sharing! ;) Yvette

Hello Yvette! I am so sorry for my delay in replying to this wonderful review of yours. Your insightful and kind words are much appreciated!
I have been recuperating in a nursing home in the town where I live, so I haven't moved to my dream home yet. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Have a good rest of your weekend!

The author's words are engaging, interesting, heartfelt and creative.
I pondered on the words and theme of this poem. I liked that the
author used the word gentle throughout the poem. I also liked the message in this poem. Have a great day!

A very well-written poem about some people who are only kind to others when they want something from you, but are mostly unkind and sometimes even rude are not genuine at the times they pretend to be kind.

Cradling Kindness
by Jesse James Doty

Hello, Jessy,

True kindness is hard to come by. I like the concept of 'random acts of kindness'. It consists of doing something kind for a estranged anonymously. Like paying for a bridge toll fee for the driver behind you.

Well done my friend.
