This is great. Sorry that I am out of six! I read this poem with much interest; I am sort of interested in the birth of colors especially in nature, this is a great inspiration, I wish I know more.

A six for you collection. I loved all of these, each one so descriptive and special. I see that my daughter has poured her spirit into her pottery and they are masterful. Everytime I use a serving piece, I see her. A delightful chapter, dear poet.
Sending you my best today as always,
Sally xoxo

Thanks again for all the support; I really appreciate it. It was a fun series to write and I have another one coming soon about the garment industry down here, the art of sewing. but first, I think I must return to short stories and post one over there; Centrifugal Force. Threads will probably post in about two weeks or so. estory

I've never read such an in-depth poem on pottery before! Great work with it. You really covered everything perfectly with fabulous imagery which engages the reader easily.

Thanks so much for the excellent review and for your support of the poem. I'm especially glad for your enthusiastic comments on the imagery. If you're Irish, you must know about Seamus Heaney, who was such a big influence on my poetry over the years. I think his first three books were masterpieces. The Irish poets are some of my favorites. I'll have to check out some of yours. What poets do you read? estory

Nicely done. Are there places where I would have done things differently? Of course there are. It's why I find reviewing free verse difficult. It's your poem; not mine. But for what it's worth, here are places where I find the word choice, rhythm and flow to be less congenial to my ear. "Temple" in line 5 introduces a set of associations that don't match up well with the magical--and then the notion is left hanging. Line 11 "glow and shine"--I don't need them. I would be happy with "Now they glisten/ like fancy on a kitchen table." And in the last line there is something jarring about the rhythm of the phrase "whisper and pantomime the earth's secrets. I suspect the anapest in pantomime, or maybe a stronger accent or beat than the "the" provides. Could you wedge "all" in there? It's the right word, the right meaning, the right image, and to my ear, a stumble in the rhythm. I suppose that all sounds like I don't like the poem. Couldn't be further from the truth. I think it is excellent work. Great job expressing the mystery and compelling attraction of good pottery. Good flow and movement. It is nearly perfect.....

Thanks so much for the excellent review and all the suggestions and comments. Everyone has their own idea of what things should sound like, I have a certain rhythm in mind and a certain sense of alliteration that I like to use. I might edit it at some point but sometimes its good to let them sit a while and gain some perspective. estory

This poem/story is just wonderful! It is easy to read and understand, and tells an intriguing educational story. Just love this work of art--on the poetry and pottery, and your writing style!

This reminds of the potter and the clay, ready to be conformed to image for which we were created to be. Like the refiners fire, in which the gold is purified into its valued existence. Well done, not everyone gets the significance of this, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Thanks so much for the excellent review and for your interesting perspective on the poem. I definitely had that bible passage of the Lord fashioning man like a pot on the wheel in the back of my mind. estory

In many ways, I liked this part the best. You really bring the firing process to life with your words. A "blazing temple of artistry", indeed! I read quite a number of Heaney's poems last month, and you now tempt me to go back over them to examine the artistry more carefully.
You have conjured up something of the art of the alchemist with your lines: "tints of copper, tin and iron / flush the dull pots with living color", and your last line makes a perfect ending. Splendid!

Thanks so much for the excellent review and for your wonderful comments supporting this poem, as well as the continued support for my work in general, my friend, I appreciate it. This was probably my favorite of the three myself, I like the idea of fancy on a kitchen table. You picked up on all that influence of Heaney. One of the greats. estory

This is a wonderful poem about pottery....I'll have to read the other in the series. Where can I find them? The way you describe the process and the colors I think is great. Pottery comes to life in this poem. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the excellent review and your wonderful comments supporting the poem, glad you enjoyed it so much. You can read the first two parts in my portfolio. Also in my first book, Word Games, are a couple of other ones you might like, Strawberry Fields and Driftings. I'll have to read a couple of yours. estory

Pottery pt. 3: Glazed Magic

Hello my friend

Pottery is such a sensual craft. You reached the end of your series...glazing. I took Pottery in college...it was a lot of fun. Good imagery. Well done my friend.

Thanks for the excellent review and all your continued support of my poetry. Glad you are enjoying it so much. My trip to Seagrove to see the pottery museum and some of the individual potters was really inspiring. I wanted to capture something of their passion, their craft, the magic of it, in this piece. estory
