I relished your personification of the pottery with their "hands on their hips". They certainly did come to life magically from the original "cold clay". Cheers- Joa

Thanks for the excellent review and your wonderful encouraging remarks especially of that "hand on their hips" line. that proved to be a favorite with lots of people. I wanted to create some personality, articulate something of the personality of the potters in their pots. estory

In our daily routine chores, we forget to appreciate the beauty of things; you penned a wonderful imagery in meaningful vocabulary; the verse has great flow; thanks for sharing.

We, as humans, tend not to reflect on those necessary vessels of procurement, that adorn our table, and metaphorically adorn our lives, but reflection is the mother of appreciated, and to ponder on these things is wisdom and the knowledge satisfies the soul. Beautifully written, a memorable and thoughtful post, most of us are unlike you, who peruse the backwaters of existence. Well done, blessings, Roy

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting perspective and encouraging words. I wanted to bring to life the sense of creativity and imagination, the soul of the creator imbued in the objects of creation that give color and character to our lives. I'm so glad the poem was able to do that for you. in a sense this is a celebration of the special in the unremarkable; but the inspiration was to write about aspects of the Carolina landscape and the culture here. Pottery is one of those aspects. The next poem will celebrate the textile industry; Threads. estory

Well done

And you've done very well, estory. Again you've written a free style poem in your unique style. A style I like very much. To me it is like a painting of the more contempory painters. All best. Ulla:))

Thanks so much for your encouraging remarks and for your continued support of my poetry. I have always taken a great interest in modern art, especially impressionism and expressionism, the abstract expressionism, so I am flattered by your comparison. Glad those elements livened up the poem for you. estory

A very well-written poem about handmade pottery that has a unique appearance and every piece has their own personality like a human being. I love pottery items although I cannot make anything myself.

Thanks so much for your wonderful comments and excellent review on this poem. I wanted to capture the sense of the imagination and personality of the creator, the artist, in the creative process and how those elements imbue the objects created to liven up the world. estory

Hello my friend
What a great idea.... it's like in beauty and the beast tea cup, candle stick, duster.... It's a fun poem. I know what you mean. Art pieces done by hand is not like a fabricated one from Walmart.

Excellent use-- and not over using -- alteration at the start (The cold clay cut) gave a powerful start to the poem. Description of the potter forming the clay and water into useful objects was effective and easy to visualize. Nice tone and reminder to consider the objects that make up our daily routines and serve us well.

So sweet and sacred. Meal times should be all that. We've gotten away from the family meal shared around the table for the most part. It fosters togetherness, thankfulness and love. Wonderfully penned, dear story.
Sending you my best today as always

Oh, what an artist we have here! I have always admired those who can sculpture things from clay, not only beautiful but also useful. I prefer and search out these items.

Comment from January L'Angelle
There is such a sense of satisfaction knowing that you created something with your own hands and your own mind. I can imagine that every time you look at some pottery on a website you chuckle and think that has no soul in it. I love this free verse. It really captures the essence of a craftsman. Well done my friend. -January L.
