You have become an Auntie for sure. You are definitely the person she needed to spend time with at this exact time in her life. You seem to have been exactly what she needed right then or now.

A very well-written journal entry about the newest developments between you and Zoe, who rushed home after her mother had a bad fall and needs her home to assist her mother.

... I am so enjoying this and I hope she returns. She made the right decision to help her mother, but I think she was really benefiting from your wisdom.

I was benefitting from Zoe's presence too. There'll be more to come.

I enjoyed reading your story about you and Zoe's budding friendship. I think it's quite a compliment when she said she wished you could have been her mother. But you see, you are a lady old enough to be her mom, you're also young enough to be a trusted friend who gives experienced motherly advice. Sorry to hear that her mom fell. Prayers!

Hello Parry! Yes, it was a compliment but it was also rather disloyal for her to say that. I could be her granny; I'll settle for being the honorary auntie.
Her mum is ok, just a bit bruised.

Zoe's entry into your life has certainly livened things up. I hope Lotte is okay. Maybe this will the catalyst for some sort of reconciliation and/or a better relationship. I'm glad you spoke your mind about Adam. I didn't pick up any nits. :)

Zoe is a force of nature. Luckily, Lotte is just bruised, nothing broken.
I was worried Zoe would not like my opinion being voiced, but I sensed she needed it. She has now told him not to come to NZ (nobody can at the moment anyway) and not to expect her to be his girlfriend... phew. It's over. She deserves better. When I was her age, someone gave me some good advice about a loser I was involved with and I did not heed it, I dug my heels in instead and wasted 3 years of my life. I'm pleased Zoe listened. Zoe isn't her real name but the character has now taken over and I've started calling her Zoe - she likes it.

There is a campaign in Britain about lifting up our fences to allow hedgehogs to wander into every garden, they are in decline and used to have a price of their head. It seems you are once again on your own Lisa, but Zoe will be back, I hope her Mum is okay, another enjoyable post, love Dolly x

Our hedgehogs here are smaller than yours (milder winters so they don't need to fatten up so much).
Zoe's mum gave her back a bit of a wrench and has a huge bruise on her bum, but she's made of tough stuff.

Gripping. didn't expect the ending--will she come back? Great bit about the needy guy and your risking pissing her off by your advice and she bursts out in relief! I eagerly await the next, as always. Cheers. LIZ (typo: he hasn't moved for a few (of: Omit) days...by the way, is Piggy dead or hibernating or does the mystery remain?)

Thanks for the typo catch. Piggy appears to be snoozing, but I can't see his body moving up and down. Hibernation probably slows their breathing down too.
I am sure Zoe will make something happen to write about. Every day a new adventure or drama.

Oh WOW! Zoe's gone home? Well, maybe this will be the thing that heals their relationship. But, I betting she will be back to the peace and companionship. Hang in there. Breathe. Take care of Piggy.
Well done!

I thought this was enjoyable reading. It sounds like a hedgehog likes to hibernate after a full buffet meal (of cat food) all right. The history of hedgehogs in New Zealand was interesting. Hopefully Zoe's mother recovers. Thanks for posting!

Well, the weeds will all be breathing a sigh of relief. Aren't human relationships the darnedest things. I will say no more because I know you don't need or probably want a reviewers dissection of this piece. I hope Piggy survives the winter, death in hibernation is unfortunately quite common in many species. As a child I had a tortoise that didn't make it.

Thanks for reviewing... any comments regarding how the piece is written are always welcome, but you are right, this is more about documenting Zoe's current life with me than a literary work.
I had a tortoise when I was a kid too, but it went missing and I never knew what happened to it. I liked to imagine it lived a long life.
