Yes, I remember reading the scene for the contest and it was excellent! The contrast here from the war scene to looking for a Christmas tree is very effective. The heavy sadness of the loss of his friend followed up with the excitement of knowing a baby is soon to be born is a great example of real life. I can't wait for the next chapter. No cons!
