Wow, thank God I have a six left for this brilliant work. When I began reading it, I almost thought it was dedicated to Dean Kuch who was fond of the thriller genre. I've been away from the site for almost three years, I found out about Dean's departure. What a horrible loss.

This is a superb Pantoum filled with passion and outrage. What happened to George Floyd became national news and will disturb generation to come. What a fine tribute to his memory.

We'll wreak revenge by wielding dread
(Floyd pled, and pled... again he pled).

His mortal soul has taken flight...
We'll wreak revenge by wielding dread

This poem is the kind that shakes a reader to core like it did this one.

I appreciate your taking the time to review my work so thoroughly. This is an issue that has reechoed around the world and sparked a new focus here in Australia on the sometimes appalling way in which indigenous aboriginal people here have been and still are treated by law enforcement agencies, government institutions and the discriminatory practices seen among sections of the wider population.
I appreciate the fact that this poem resonated strongly enough with you for the award of a sixth star, and thank you again for your supportive comments.
Once again, I apologise for the lateness of this response.

Thank you so much, Tony. I thought of Dean Kuch when I started reading it. A powerful poetic reply to one of the greatest tragedies of all time.

Thank you for being inspired by the tragic death of George Floyd to create and share this Pantoum. I admired your rhymes and repeats plus your dramatic prediction. Here's to peaceful change and soon- Joan

Thanks, Joan. Yes, a peaceful resolution would be wonderful. A bitter blow concurrent with Covid-19.

This is a dramatic and emotional Pantoum Tony, on this tragic event and I think your opening and closing line
Kneel gently on his bones tonight -
is for me the line that has the greatest impact. Well done with this one,
cheers

Thanks, Valda. I appreciate your review. That first line was the genesis of the poem. An echo of Dylan Thomas's villanelle: 'Do not go gentle into that good night'.
    All good wishes, Tony

Well done poem. Your wording is excellent and says so much. I too sincerely hope that Mr. Floyd is resting in peace. I don't believe the rioting and looting are what would please him, and it is a discredit to his memory.

Tony,
Your poem to honor George Floyd is awesome.
Your words are deep and strike the reader hard.
Your poem opens our conscious and refuses to allow
the door to close. Thank you for sharing.
Peace,

It breaks my heart to read this. I liked the completely different take on the line 'For pity's sake' -- so outraged the second time around. Different emotions aroused with the repetition of
Floyd pled and pled... again he pled.

The image of worms needing time to suck his bones--wow!

You garnered my sympathy to 'kneel gently on his bones.'

You are a master of brilliant poetry.
The use of indentation serves to make the reader gasp and absorb the before and after thoughts.

Hello Tony,
Your variation on the Pantoum works beautifully
as the emotion is carried through the lines
and the pathos of the bookend line is perfect pitch.
Sad times, like a thousands mirrors of history.
Well said.

Wow, I felt like stepping down in one of those Byron's poem where death and desperation is hurting the soul for an eternity. I must admit there is a certain eerie to this poem:"

Kneel gently on his bones tonight,
for pity's sake.
The worms need time"
Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.

You've ripped this right out of the headlines. And it is haunting. The riots and unrest are out of control. It would be nice if we could take some time and honor his life for the good things he has done.

When I first started reading, I had a wise crack for you, but then when I realized it's about Mr. Floyd, I got serious. My country is a mess. I'm concerned about the systemic killing of Black men, I'm concerned about the damage being done to property and I'm concerned about the virus spreading because of the demonstrations. This is a very poignant poem and your words will stay with me next time I watch the news. Hugs, Lou
