I suppose we've already been practicing social distancing any way, this is more obvious now, we still don't know them, we are simply adding the distance, heh heh. Well done, good luck, blessing Roy

    Thanks Roy!

Life takes on new scenarios during these social distancing protocols. Stay safe. Keep a healthy distance from your neighbors.

Hello Mark,
I pray your are well during this Covid-19 dilemma. I like your 5-7-5 poem regarding the nameless neighbors. It is quite different now when I do my walking (pretty regularly) and I see my neighbors outside in their yard. We do a friendly wave and move on. I have three doves that I see every day now, that I didn't notice until recently. You are right, I think I know them better than my neighbors. lol. Great job on the your 17 syllables's message. Great artwork of the birds. Well-done. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks Joyce for your commentary! It would be something if we could really talk to our feathered friends. My guess is our neighborhood birds would never shun us.

It is truly a different world we live in now. I see people I don't recognize too, and I wonder what these birds are thinking - where did all the people go? Good luck in the contest.

    Thanks A. Louise!

    My guess is this crisis will change how we interact in the future with many persons and situations. Maybe the birds ARE smarter than we humans (-;

P.S. thanks for stopping by; I appreciate your stars for my typical poem style, 5-7-5.

This 5-7-5, Neighborhood Walkers in COVID-19, has the right set up and shows the limited social contact available. This makes a bird watcher wonder more about those feathered fellows.

    Bill,

    Sitting outside now, I see some of my neighbors walking, but I have yet to see 'my' robin's daily appearance. He/she may be working at home in their cozy nest (-;

I believe that wildlife has been much more brave since humans have been locked indoors, I think they believe they have the planet to themselves now, but not for long as human kind will soon take over, a fine write Mark, love Dolly x

    Hi Dolly,

Missed your posts somehow. Glad all is OK on the other side of the big pond. The earth can do with a continued rest. Apparently, this virus has reduced car emissions with less people traveling and the air is cleaner.

The animals were here before humankind arrived so....

Hi Mark. I am so glad you wrote this... we have begun walking in our neighborhood and see folks we do not know and others that are infrequent friends. I could relate!!!

    Melissa,

It is very strange that we don't know the families of those who have moved in 2-10 years ago. It was much easier when my 2 children had school mates in the neighborhood. We had more togetherness then. Maybe this social distancing situation will allow us to rejoin our neighbors in a greater friendship.

Neighborhood Walkers in Covid-19
by Mark D. R.

Hello, Mark,

I like your 5/7/5 :)
I go for walks with my grandson and I see masked bandits walking by. Heh heh heh great entry for the 5-7-5 Poetry Writing contest.

I just have one suggestion....

sunny day I see

red robins walking by me ~
my nameless neighbors

    Gypsy,

Your suggestion is noteworthy. I thought about using sunny. However, the only time I see that neighborly robin is when I sit outside on EACH of those sun-filled days. Trying to Google my robin's exact address or apartment number is very difficult without any knowledge of the bird's surname. LOL

BTW ... I am positive it is the same one each day - whether male (more likely since the breast color is brighter) or female.

A very well-written 5-7-5 poem and the observation about your neighbors that you never noticed before the virus lockdown. Sometimes we need to get to a stand still to realize what is all around us, but personally I think this is going on too long now. We are in our eleventh week, and the death toll rises everyday still.

    Sandra,

You are so right about our neighbors and our environment. We need to take more time to see the flowers, smell the roses, and interact with our neighbors. The latter seems to be true since many are working from home, so we may see them more often.

We keep our social distancing protocols in place whenever we are close to people or the once every 4-5 days to the supermarket (but during senior hours).

Love your posting, Mark! I feed robins (and other birds) every day. They like the chopped grapes and apples more than the seed. It is a joyful part of my day. Thank you for sharing this day brightener!

Thanks Janet for your tweet review. We once had a bird feeder but the squirrels took it over, so now we will
leave it to you to feed the birds. Grapes and apples are some of my favorite treats. Bird seed you can keep to yourself LOL

very nice.
When you say "I wave to," are you out walking, too, if you are able? Enjoying fresh air and sunshine?
I'm not sure I quite get your phrase,"Social financing protocols," though I gather you're referring to those having to work from home.
Darling picture of the robins. No robins where I live, but other birds that I enjoy, and this morning they were singing up a storm.
Good that you are enjoying your sun days.

OMG...spell check spoiler alert! It should be distancing! Pleased you caught this goof. But your rationale also applies.

I am walking and also sitting outside. There have been really glorious sunny days recently. The sitting distance to my neighbors and the robins is at least 25 feet; walking distance is usually on opposite sides of the street. But I am wearing no mask in either of these two cases.

who need s mask when you're outside??
    good for you.
