A very well-written sonnet about life that can sometimes be unfair and we sometimes make choices that we wonder if it is the right choice, but when we look back and see where we standing today we know each decision was made correctly as it was meant to be.

Hello, Beth,

Beautiful entry for the
Sonnet Poetry Contest. It's interesting that if I had known where life would take me, would I do things differently. I like your presentation too. Well done.

Thinking back I never wanted to roam, not ever. I was happy with my life except I wanted to be a wife and mother. I met Jim and that was that. His path brought me to Nevada. I was always happy as long as I was with him. LOL Well done, Beth.
Very nice. Nancy:)

Thank you so much for the review and comments. I did think I wanted to get away. I envied people who were able to travel and I never thought much about getting married until I met the one I would marry. With him, I had all the adventures I needed.

They wish to float the Buffalo, but I will take a rain check on that. Yes, it should be raining. LOL.

What a beautifully written poem. It's very relatable, one I'm sure all of us have thought about. My personal opinion, I think everything was meant to work out the way it did, that there was a reason, a lesson to be learned. Your poem is very well-written, interesting start to finish. Your great word choice lets the reader feel the love, admiration you have for your husband. Very nicely done.

beth, This poem made me think of my own younger years. I was afraid not to be able to travel and see the world once I was married and would have children. That's why, at 24, I decided to take a year off and roam Europe. I did, on my own, in an old "Deux Cheveaux" model small van. I could sleep in it, store some clothes and cooking utensils, and was on my way. Shortly after I came back, I met my first husband, fell in love, and I married him at 28 years of age. At 30 and 31 I had my two children, but after that, my marriage somehow deteriorated. I tried to cope but when Mascha was 13 and Pepijn 12, I just didn't want to be unhappy constantly. We divorced. Two years later I met my second husband, and that was the right one for me. He was 11 years my senior, but we had 35 happy years together. He left me a widow, two years now.
All this rant after I read your poem! Hope I didn't bore you.

Thank you Marjon, I appreciate and comments. I'm glad you are telling me about your life experiences. We never know what paths and detours our lives will take. I glad you found the right one in the end but there was a reason for the first one as well.

These words are from the heart and I loved your story of love that quelled the adventure in you and calmed and soothed your soul as you lost your heart to the man of your dreams, a well metered and rhymed sonnet, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Wow! That says so much about the love you have for your husband. I loved your well-written sonnet, covering the turn in the third stanza that takes us from the childhood yearning to the fulfillment of that yearning in your beloved. Best wishes in the contest!

Excellent sonnet, Beth. Your extended metaphor of a path works exceptionally well in delivering a message exploration, and then finding your soulmate.

Your metre and rhymes are spot on and I wish you much luck with the Contest Committee. :)
