A beautiful story. A great read as is always your stuff. Loved the romance, too. You know Chuck Norris is a believer I hope. Well done and thanks for making sure I read this. I was called up (you call it drafted) for Vietnam but I failed the medical.

Thank you so much for the lovely review, six star blast, and kind comments, dear Geoff. Yes, I believe Chuck Norris is a believer from what I can tell. He's very outspoken in these things. I am very grateful to him personally and also Find A Grave and Ancestry.com. Steve and I were separated after this last scene, and I heard of his death at a family funeral years later. I tracked him down and found his body buried with honors in Washington state. I heard that he spent time between Washington and Singapore during the last few years of his life. He and his wife are trying to find missing relatives. Sending my best today is always with many thanks, Sally xoxo

What a great mental tactic: "His loved ones back home became the faces of the south Vietnamese, ravaged by this cruel war. " This line tells the reader already this is going to be a powerful account. One of my friend's huband has been affected by Agent Orange of course could get no compensation...not enough proof. I like this line. I am sure there are many readers who have thought something similar: "I wish I'd paid better attention in French class!" This is a lovely tribute to a remarkable man.

He really was a remarkable man. When he was home he would entertain us on the piano with his brilliant talent. He was also amazingly kind. I'm so glad you enjoyed this and appreciate your review and kind comments so much. Sending you my best day as always, Sally xoxo

I adore everything about this. I learned recently a lot about North and South Korea reading the book "Dear Leader". I desire to learn more about Vietnam. I will always think of this story in connection with that war. Thank you for sharing this wonderful writing. I feel it could be made into a larger book!

Wonderful character sketch in the same paragraph from the text I highlight just below...

"Like a mother of a newborn, he slept with one foot out of bed." Just excellent!

This is a very beautiful story. I was captivated the whole way through. At first I was added that you were telling the story so outright. I would have liked maybe to experience this with them. However, the more I read the more my heart leaped with joy for them.

Thank you so much, dear Mia. How kind you are! I'm glad you could appreciate this story and the good that came out of it. This is a very difficult write for me, probably the hardest thing I've ever had to write. However at the end of it, I was glad I did it.

Thank you again for the lovely review and six star rating. It means so much to me.
Sending you my best today as always,

It says this is "Romance Fiction" but it feels really like it happened. Wonderful story and great storytelling - could be a book in itself. It brings to mind the sacrifice of the Vietnam Vets as well as showing us real people in the war-stricken country. Virtual six!

"Colonel Li recommend he visit the nurse;" (recommended)
"From the nurse," said the boy in broken English. (it doesn't sound broken at all. But I don't know how you could display it with such a short phrase. Maybe: Nurse say give you. Vietnamese was influenced by French so they know articles but often don't pronounce the end of words.

I enjoyed reading this story. It is good this man was able to find a wonderful parson to love. it is sad that he lost his ability to speak due to throat cancer.

Oh, what a beautiful story! It is so touching and human and hopeful, and sad as well. But he got his loving bride and could return with her and her brothers to the USA. A dream of happiness, after two stranded marriages, finally fulfilled.
Beautifully told, very well written. I found two little flaws:

...an unloved solider (soldier).
You explained the ARVN twice. I think the second time can be omitted.

Great story! I enjoyed reading it.

Thank you very much for the excellent review and kind comments. I appreciate the critique as well and I have repaired them. I originally moved the ARVN and forgot to erase it from the second paragraph. Being blind, there's always something to keep me humble. LOL! I appreciate you so much.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful, but sad story with us. It is very well written. Parts of it caused goosebumps. I know many veterans from the Viet Nam War, and many who did not return.

Thank you so much, Barbara dear. I am deeply honored by this and your kind, generous stars. This was a difficult ride because it was not an easy one. What a difficult time this was for a nation and for us all. I was glad for my brother that some good came out of it for him. He really did find himself quite a jewel.
Sending you my best today as always with many thanks,
