This blended poem, The Laceleaf, brings the explanatory poem and the concise 5-7-5 together to note that this flower looks - well - a bit excited.

I like this colorful flower. Pretty to look at and vibrantly impressive. I like your entire poem which is reminiscent of something in my past. Nice tercet at the end of the poem which is encouraging for those still looking. One tiny typo: Spandix. I believe it is Spandex. Marilyn

Thank you for sharing your anthurium with us--it certainly is beautiful and resonates hearts and love. I learned a new word too with "Spathes" and the other name for the plant--"Laceleafs". Continue to enjoy your new friend- Joan

Hi Joan! All friends have been friends. I have a theory that nothing new is good during a pandemic. Let's hope it's over soon and a new, but old man can find me. My plant is just that for fresh air, I don't muse on it. You're nice. Thank you. Hugs, Alicia :)

I am pondering your theory about nothing new being good during a pandemic, but it can't be over soon enough. Here's to more fresh air from your anthurium and a restful Sunday- Joan

Starting a poem off with "There are" is awkward and not pretty at all. Sounds more like a report.

Green leaves and sturdy stems
behold red hearts, passionate ... etc

I love the spandex reference - you have the material to make this a really cool poem.

If you play with this and want me to see it, I'd be happy to. I hope my critique does not upset you.

(I think flower is obvious and a poet should try and explain without spelling it out (plus your title does that)

Hi! Okay, send me the prettiness rules. I'll modify accordingly. Spandix is actually a scientific term for the botany verus fashionista. Creating a metaphor for spandix-spandex would actually make its own poem. You didn't upset me... Lolz. Thank you :)

There are no prettiness rules as you know, just subjective opinions. I thought you were making a play on the word ?spandex? as you say ?wears? spandix

A very well-written poem about your new houseplant that gives you hours of pleasure in this time of isolation and it seems to like your company too producing beautiful flowers.

This is a beautiful poem about a simple house plant. I love how your words are simple but attractive, just like the laceleaf.

Thank you for sharing your work. Keep writing.

Much love,
Ignatius A

Lanterns I think.

Hi Judy! That is a pretty flowering plant too. It's not something I have seen around Southern California. You're the best. Thank you. Hearts & hugs, Alicia :)

I love your use of words in this poem-"spandex "-pollinators" as you relate flowers and animals to the need of sex, an excellent read with wonderful artwork, thank you for sharing****kahpot

HI Kahpot. The scientific term is spandix. The fashion term for a girdle is spandex. You're nice. Thank you :)

Thank you for explaining that for me, it is now more understandable many thanks****kahpot

Yes, we tend to think in Victorian themes about sex, but to nature it's perfectly "natural", they should really be our teaches, although monogamy is a symbol also of faithfulness, now I'm confusing myself. Well done Alicia, some great thoughts here. I've prayed for your Prince Charming, you'll find some in church, blessings, Roy

I completely loved this, sort of a sexy botany lesson in a poem. It was extremely interesting and fun. I think this is a really great job you've done here.
