This is a very nice poem, Alicia. The rose is quite inviting. These are my favorite lines:
"Let the reality of the rose be romance.
Let the reality of the red rose be love.
May the scent of the rose be soft and sweet;
Soft and sweet as sharp thorns go unnoticed
Because beauty sits on the horizon."

A very well-written poem about the red rose that stands for love and romance no matter how old you are, I am over sixty and I still like to receive red roses once in a while.

Hi! Romance never ends for you. I'm still wondering how to get it started. Lolz. Thank you :)

I like the way the poem sounds - you used repetition nicely. I get this feeling of roses just multiplying and blooming everywhere! And I don't think it sounds "old" - but youthful. Besides, you'll always be 25 in my mind - just like your photo.

Hi Helen! I was like 44 in that photo. Do we know each other, like have we met? Thank you :)

We never met in person but I feel like I know you. I guessed 25 from your picture. You look young!!

What a spectacular, velvety rose and so appropriate for Mother's Day! You certainly captured the beauty of the classic, red rose with your words, either singly or in groups. Enjoy the bloom's scent and symbol of love on this special day- Joan

You play the repetition very well. It's like I'm handling the rose myself while singing my favorite poems. I tried to count syllable counts per line, and i observed that meter is there in 10 counts of most lines. "Soft and sweet as sharp thorns go unnoticed is my favorite line of the poem. A s a reader, I go to that central idea of the rose. Well done.

I love red roses. I have loved roses since I was a kid. I am 24 now and still enjoy receiving them. They are like a symbol of love, the most romantic gesture or gift a lover could ever give. I really enjoyed your poem. It was simple and straight to the point about how roses are and how you see them.

Oh, the rose! It is, it always was and it will always be a favorite flower to all the romantic hearts. To give to the loved one, to express one's admiration or gratitude, to write about the rose in words like you did in your lovely poem.
You use the repetitive key words, making them penetrate further in the mind. I can practically touch its velvety petals and smell the intoxicating fragrance.
Very well done!

I like the contrast in the first line... but a rose is on a stem when it is on a bush so maybe the opposite would be blooming in a vase? Which yours was (you didn't bring the bush in the house :)

It might be fun to play with opposites... that might make it more interesting. You say "romance" which is good, what first comes to mind but what about playing with that next line with a word that means "sorry" Don't use sorry as I think that is a boring word (go to rhymezone(dot)com or dictionary(dot)com and use the thesaurus (that is my go-to)

I don't quite understand the numbers... but roses are often referred to as a dozen red roses.

Because beauty sits on the horizon I don't quite get.. but roses do climb a trellis... they are often on corsages - celebrate weddings and funerals (there's an opposite).

Just some thoughts. I'm rambling now. I like this idea a lot - it is why I spent time on this critique. Hope you don't mind.

Hi! It's not about one rose. It's about my beliefs, ideas and truths of the red rose / red roses. I'm sorry you don't understand more and more roses through a number. I'm sorry you don't get a metaphor. It's all pretty straightforward. I'm not really allowed to say much more than thank you. That's like a rule... Thank you :)

I understand metaphors as it is one of my favorite forms to use in my poetry writing. Roses through a number... You are correct, I don't understand. I guess I did miss it. But that is my critique... and I need to be honest. No need to be sorry for me - I don't understand that response. I'm giving you honest feedback - I receive feedback where readers don't get what I'm trying to say and I weight their thoughts. And then make a change or not. Thats what is great about this site.
