Nice job bringing this scene at the front door between mother and son to life. We really feel the distance between them melt in that gesture of giving the groceries, all the pent up and senseless separation just disappears here in this act of helping out with basic human needs. estory

In times like these, we certainly need to be kind to ourselves and to each other. There are dozens of stories of kindness coming to light and I enjoyed yours.
I might have put a period after 'wait' in the following:
A note on the door tells me to knock loudly and wait, that's what I do.
