Unfortunately there are many farmers here, generational I presume, because of drought conditions for years here, hardy men are leaving the land, or some commit suicide, because this is an occupation that depends solely on faith and dependence on an unresponsive weather condition, it is the most basic of struggle and reward, beautifully written my friend, you do always have a purpose and thrust your writing. Without which I wonder why folk write. Well done, blessings, Roy

Thanks so much for your excellent review and your perspective on the poem. I really wanted to convey that sense of not being altogether in control of this life, of needing faith to get through it, of relying on perseverance and hard work. estory

This is a very descriptive poem that really gives the reader great visuals. I could clearly see the earth and how the men work it. The poem is great in its structure and flow. Well done. -January L.

Estory, I am happy I found the second of your four "Land" poems. I enjoyed the first one so much I was really looking forward to this one.
Good, descriptive writing. Gives me a good idea of the vastness of the land, the endlessness of the repetitive days, the heavy work. But also of the pride of doing all this well, having a good harvest, the farmer's way of Thanksgiving. A fulfilling life.

Thanks so much for the excellent review and your encouraging remarks. So glad you got these elements of hard work, of faith, of perseverance and the struggle to make a living out of this vast, uncontrollable earth and weather. estory

"Groundwork" great free verse, it's almost like you wrote this about my family and I. May day's and late evenings tilling the ground, planting corn rotating to wheat depending on the seasons. After all the work is done, You Bring The Sacrament, great end. Best regards.

Excellent! freeverse poem about the reality of those who work the soil for their very existence. It is an ode of rhythm in the music of cadences reading enthusiastically out loud. I have not a 6* to give you for it definitely deserves it.
My grandparents were farmers and I am able to relate to how they thought and felt about the land and scraping a living from it year after year.
It reads wonderfully and progresses in thought and image. A real find! I also love how you related it to the Eucharist, the sacrament, the outward sign of the real presence here in the work and in the toil of the generations of life culminating a thanksgiving of what the land produces after the self giving of the blood sweat and tears. giovanni

Thanks so much for your inspiring review and your wonderful perspective on the poem. So glad the poem was able to capture these elements of perseverance and faith, of fitting into family traditions and the struggle with an uncontrollable landscape and weather. So many people from farming backgrounds enjoyed this and I am glad the poem was able to capture something of the hard work and faith that goes into it. estory
