What does it say about society (or me?) that it never occurred to me there were women shepherds!? The painting actually works very well...I thought you chose it because "she" literally felt insignificant and invisible in her occupation...something still felt by many females, sadly! Excellent.--Karenina

Very skilled use of a metaphor to explain the struggling of the working class. Humans and animals have Masters who benefit so much while providing so little for the workers. Times are changing.

It never occurred to me that there are female shepherds and I never thought of that life as a lonely one. Well, I suppose not everyone chooses that livelihood to be out in nature. Perhaps some are running away from life. That's the sense I got with this poem. Hugs, Lou

Well done. I appreciated the art work that went with this poem, but more so I appreciated the picture that your words painted of the lonely shepherdess whose life is lonely and seemingly without hope.

Hello, Linda,
I found a picture of a sad shepherdess girl. I added the link. You just have to give credit to the artist but it's not copyrighted.
I like your poem very much. You captured the gloomy feeling well. Beautiful presentation.

You kind of paint that bleak picture of the world in lockdown at this time of the epidemic, this stark landscape without human voices, contact. The last line grabbed me a bit. There you get that feeling of someone trying to dream, even in this lonely, forsaken state. It's that theme of 'hope springs eternal', and it is poignant in this setting. estory

Yes, your words depict the message you are sending. The poem is lovely in its accent on her loneliness. It doesn't surprise me that you couldn't find a picture with a female sheperdess. I have never heard of one.

There is a picture of a shepherdess. After I saw it, I wrote this poem about it. It was painted a zillion years ago, apparently. Keep safe in our Covid world! Linda

I'm sure that she dreams of a better life, one free of some restrictions she encounters. I think that she'd probably also like not to have to be so close to sheep all of the time. Thanks for sharing this well written work. Well done!

This is a good and pretty depressing poem about the boredom of being a shepherd. I like how you say what the dog and sheep are doing keeping them selves well and entertained though the human is bored and lonely. Maybe she can befriend one of the sheep, or get a good book to read. Even though the artwork did not show a female shepherd I think it was a great choice all the same.
