Eight well-planted quatrains as an ode to hollyhocks and female relatives: mother, grandmother. It makes me feel guilty for landscaping over our hollyhock patch last year (but it is easier for the cats to get back in the house, now).

This is a beautiful poem well executed in swap quatrain style, Mrs KT. Your topic is expressed in a loving way with precious memories of your grandmother and her love of flowers. The hollyhocks are amazing. Your 'swp' lines work perfectly in your poem as do the great rhymes. I enjoyed reading this. The video was interesting with some beautiful hollyhocks to be seen. Wow, that is so good and I love how you reverse the first line on the final line of each verse without losing the flow. That is so very clever. I also like the imagery your words created. When I closed my eyes I saw beautiful colour.

Thanks for sharing this lovely poem. The rhyme scheme and the near rhyme of "sure" and "her" both work well. The picture is uplifting. I can almost smell the flowers.

I must admit that I was puzzled when you referenced the "near rhyme" of "sure" with "her." I am born and raised in northern Michigan and I/we pronounce "sure" as "sher;" thus it is a definite rhyme to me. However, I quizzed my structural engineering husband by asking him to pronounce both words = definite match. But then, I phoned my British son-in-law and asked him to put our daugher on speaker phone and asked them to pronounce both words. Our daughter pronounced "sure" as "sher," while our son-in-law (graduate of Oxford) pronounced "sure" as "shoor." We had quite a laugh. Truly, I never would have questioned the rhyming compatibility of "sure" with "her" until you pointed it out to me. So thank you!
As an aside, my mother-in-law grew up in Ohio = "Oh-hi-oh" to all of us; however, she pronounced it as "Oh-hi-er." Amazing!
