Hey Liz,
Well done on your little play. You captured the thoughts and feelings of each character so well. It's both admirable and sad that Lenny stuck it out with Karen. Isn't it just like us humans to believe that we can change another person against their will? Thanks for sharing gal.
Have a blessed day.
Tom

Hello again, Tom. Sorry you got just 2 cents. I appreciate your spot-on reflections. My sister's marriage was the inspiration for this script. When I wrote this several years ago, I added years to their ages and marriage. They are presently 63 and 64 and have been married for 39 years.

I've heard it a million times: get to know the person before you marry them. But that has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Potential mates aren't stupid enough to let anyone know how they really are, or they could never get married. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

This sounds like two people settled into their life that really needs something to talk about. You did a great job and I didn't see any errors. Shirley

Interesting approach to see the perspectives of husband and wife. It seems the wife has more regrets on Lenny's behalf than she does for herself. Even though there have been some up sides to their marriage, He still feels regrets about not having children. Amazingly, they've stuck with it for all those years. Very insightful. judi

You're very welcome. They surely have something going for them if they've been married that many years. judi

Hi Liz,
Well written! I ran across no problems.
So this couple stays together for duty's sake. Promises made, promises kept. Neither one is happy, but they persevere. I wonder how many couples are in the very same boat? Add them to the couples already divorced and I'll bet you'll have a fantastic number.
There's a song by Don Francisco about marriage. I'd share it with you here. It's called "Love Is Not A Feeling"

A very clever and well-written monologue shows each side of the coin and the motivation for getting married. She was afraid of being alone, he because he was in "Love." They are now older and are reflecting on their marriage.
Because we married later in life and were just starting out with little, we have no children, but at times, we have the same discussions, our reasons why and what if.
Best wishes,
Mary

I like the use of two monologues to tell this story, Liz. It's sad to think the marriage has lasted so long, without any real love in it. One of my daughters was convinced to marry a man, even though she'd told him she didn't want to marry (they were co-habitating). She'd also told him she didn't want to have any children, and she stuck to that. After a few years he became verbally abusive, presumable over this disagreement. She divorced him and found someone who already had children and respected her wishes. She's a wonderful (step) grandmother. :)

Thank you for sharing this with us. I enjoyed reading and another interesting side to this. I had a teacher friend years ago. Her and her husband were young and newly married. They were lower enlisted, and money was tight until he got higher rank. He wanted to wait a few years to have children, until they were more stable financially. She said she's wait as she took her birth control in front of him and then secretly spit it out. Yes, she got pregnant. I have often wondered what happened to that marriage. We got orders and moved.

Thanks for your thoughtful engagement. I had a friend who did that--had three kids and wanted a fourth--her husband demanded she abort the baby--as it happened, she miscarried the day before the appt. She told me that she got pregnant by him before marriage and had an abortion at his urging--a year later he called her to propose marriage. I'd have told the dick where to stick it.

Two brutally frank introspection on why they married each other .The woman feels guilty -43 years too long to carry that guilt. But the man comes out as a better person. at least he thought he was in love. She married him because she was afraid of being lonely...
very well written Good characterisation..
