Just your luck indeed! This well written story sounds like an annoying situation, when you want to know something and can't immediately get the answer, but it also sounded a bit selfish in not acknowledging that now, because of masks being worn, the lipreading members of our community are seriously disadvantaged too.

Do you know, I never thought about that problem with face masks until I read somewhere that someone had invented one with a clear bit over the mouth for this very reason.
It's a great story for the Coronaviral times, with a neat twist. One nit
We put on our face masks(;) off we went. - insert semi-colon.
