"The nearest playmate lived a mile away, and we seldom saw each other. Story time was the best time of day." Same for me! Mom read. Dad didn't.

The Hardy Boys ... My heroes!

The Zane Grey series ... Learned of him from my roomy in college.

"I'm glad my daughter doesn't care about books. I think it gets them interested in boys too young." Huh???

Best of luck in the "The Appeal of Books" contest.

I really enjoyed reading this. I too was a bookworm of sorts. It's funny I was placed in an English class in Jr. High school. The teacher pulled a few if us out of the class but to our benefit and in some ways to our detriment. We were talked to go to the library; read books and write papers. That's were my love for writing and my 43 year friendship with my best friend began. Unfortunately I still could use a little help with punctuation but often the choices that I make are for dramatic effect rather than actual error. I'm certain that many of your readers will identify with this narrative. Thank you for sharing. Excellent!

Thank you so much for the six star review. I really appreciate that. One reader gave me only four stars because I misplaced a couple of commas. LOL

You handled the prompt well, Mystery Author. I enjoyed reading your well-written story about your love of books. You are right about one thing that stands out to me. Reading and being read too foster a desire to read more and more as one grows. I enjoyed how you wrote you would find a place to read and not move except to turn pages. The jar of fireflies was something a young child would think would work. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Respectfully, Jan

I'd love to have my own library. I love to read also and as a lad, it came natural to me. I read encyclopedias and dictionaries, whatever I could get my hands on. I had so many books that I would read two or three at a time trying to put a dent in the amount that I had. Thanks for sharing this inspirational and well written work. Well done!

Thank you for the review. It sounds like we are two of a kind. I read encyclopedias too.
