Juggling work with motherhood will always be a problem, but at least it gives your baby a chance to develop new skills under the watchful eye of someone else. It also gives the mother a chance to thrive at something other than parenthood, which makes the time with her child even more special. I sincerely hope that was how it worked out for you, and I look forward to reading on to find out.

After that, when he passed (my) my station he'd look in another direction.

Your image picture is so cute. Love babies, they are so innocent and precious. I hope that you found a great babysitter so you did not have to be concerned when working.

Dear Beth, This post is straight forward and well-chronicaled. As always, the text is easy to see.
I was particularly fascinated to know that a local station could post art work if they had problems with transmissions.
As for the 11:00 P.M. sign off I grew up with that. My family bought our first set in the early 50s. I got to see the Coronation of Elizabeth II. One of the first Nationally Broadcast TV events.
My oh My! . . . how technology has changed in just our life- times!

Thank you so much for the review and the comments. Yes, this was a different world back then. I don't think anyone in my town owned a TV in 1950. If you didn't live near a city, television reception was so bad it wasn't worth owing one.

You certainly had some interesting jobs, Beth. I was happy when I read you had a healthy Baby Girl! What a relief. You give a good accounting of your life. Well done, Nancy:)

Thank you for the review. Yes I was very happy about that too. I have a variety of jobs that were interesting until they turned sour.

Hi Beth. I am glad to have been able to catch this chapter and apologize for missing so much.

You certainly had your hands full during those years didn't you Beth? (It makes for good storytelling though.)

Suggestion: When speaking of past tense do not refer to it like this:
"Many times when I would answer the phone...." change to "Many times when I answered the phone...."

I hope to catch up some more as time allows, my friend. :) Bob

Thank you for the review. Don't apologize I'm just delighted you are around to read some of it. I don't remember being that overwhelmed with my jobs. There were some interesting times but for the most part I felt I had a good life. I always said if I had the chance I'l like to do it all over again, but when I read what I'm remembering there are some parts I be better off skipping. Your suggestion is a good one. Thanks.

Beth, I am glad to have read this chapter. It was good to see you got finally rid of this Lee, calling you daily. What a relief! You handled the other one better, knocking those ideas out of him at the very beginning!
So this baby was doing alright and you could enjoy her and love her as any mother should be able to. I am happy to hear that.

Another fine chapter, Beth.

Wish you would post a picture of you at that age. The baby's adorable. Men sure gravitated to you. They did to my sister, but not me.
I felt sorry for the mother with a child who had birth defects. How kind of the owner to allow her to bring him to work. But I can see where her talking would drive you nuts.
Lucky you to have a job where you could be creative.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. I certainly don't think I was beautiful. In my portfolio if you open all the chapters of this book there is a picture of us at the chapter called the Wedding. I put in on after it was read so that is why you didn't see it.

I will check it out. What number is the chapter?

It's chapter 8. The picture is squished down unless you open it up.

(typo: lay on it's back s/b lie on its) Beth, gripping, as always. Boy, what you went through--while pregnant and afterwards with an infant--Lee is beyond disturbed. And the other guy--what a dick! Heartbreaking re Susan; hope better time ahead. Fine work! Cheers. LIZ

Thank you for the review and comments and for finding that typo.
My name is Elizabeth too. I went by that in high school and a lot of people called me "Liz". It's a great name. I should have kept it.

How amusing--my original name was just Beth and when I moved away I changed it--wanting to start life anew and dissociate from my identity as a miserable outcast. So I just tacked ELIZA on the front end--which many assumed was my real name--and ended up mostly being called LIZ thereafter. Some people call me Elizabeth--especially ones I meet in noisy places--when I say my name is LIZ they often hear LYNN and after two tries I make a zigzag in the sir and say Z as in Elizabeth--then they call me that. Also, when I give first and last name I use that because LIZEMERALD runs together. By the way--it is technically unnecessary to change your name legally because it is not illegal to use whatever and however many names first/last as long as you keep square with the IRS. I'm a faux Emerald as well; after divorcing GREENe I picked a brighter shade. Cheers. LIZ

You are a riot! My first name is Verna which I hated so I started signing Elizabeth Ann and signed my SS card that way. Then I heard I would get in trouble so I had the Ann added on my birth certificate but they couldn't take the Verna off. Are we nuts?

I started this review before I had to go out and lost it. Coming back I see some errors I picked up have since been corrected. Still some for you, though. In background...I am getting [phone] unwanted phone calls at home.

I was afraid [once] that (once)I was in the hospital,

This is another beautifully written story about unwanted phone calls. You did a great jov conveying how irritating they can be and I was impressed with how well you handled them. I look forward to the next addition. Sorry, I took some time off to rest my poor eyes. I hope you didn't take this personally.

Sasha, I delighted that you were able to read it but I don't want to try if it is going to make your eyes worse. You need to save those eyes so you can right you rambles. I really apprecate you giving me all those stars but I would hate to think it may have made you eyes worse.
