Clapping loudly here in Texas. Wow, that was a killer script. I am so used to your lighthearted pieces that this one threw me for a bit. Still, I shouldn't have been surprised; good writers like you can write with any tone, any mood, any voice. Great stuff, Liz. Your talent shines through with every sentence.

I wrote this last year and decided to repromote it (this is the fifth time).

So glad you came upon this--I've acquired many fans since the last promo but it's against the rules for me to let them know--"Soliciting reviews" is a crime!--if this had been a new release my fans would have been notified by the system; it sucks that I can't clue them in.

Thank you for your thoughtful and eloquent remarks! So pleased you liked the play. This was inspired by a relative who refused to acknowledge his relationship despite knowing it would be accepted these days. Such a shame that he felt such shame. Thanks for stopping by. Cheers. LIZ

This deals sensitively with a subject that some people still feel difficult to deal with. So much is lost and so much is wasted when communication breaks down through the fear of prejudice. Your script accentuates the tragic consequences.

Well this is a gem of social commentary, sad reality, secret's kept and a triumph over the ghosts of regret which may have haunted both Mary and Phil for the rest of their days!

I'm old enough to remember the days when gay friends of mine would forever be editing their speech... selecting gender neutral pronouns...

Never Tom and I went skiiing.
Not even he and I went skiiing.

Always...a friend and I went..
or argued..
or thought...

There were fences much taller then, dividing morality into some false barricade.

Enough to break the heart!

LOVE this!

Every sentence, every nuance', every misunderstanding wiped away with a nod to the truth and a warm embrace!

NOW I've got a slew of scripts to read!

No end to your talent!

Bravo! Encore!

Karenina

This is so well done, Liz. I love the theme, one that needs to be addressed more than it is. I love the dialogue as well. I'm glad I saw this when scrolling through the top posts.

Your presentation is great, Liz. I enjoyed reading it. I knew from the beginning what the situation would be. I don't believe a warning was needed, but better safe than sorry, right? You did a great job expressing each character's POV. It was a dilemma that could have been handled differently/better from the start.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

This is a really great piece. I think you caught a deep truth which is even though homosexuality is legal it's often seen as a shame and stigma. I like the voices of your characters, they come across as realistic and full of love. I know from my own experience that often we gays are harshest on ourselves.
Finally, if anyone was offended by your writing they should be ashamed of themselves as they are spreading hate rather than love and tolerance.
Thanks for sharing this!

This addresses a subject that is probably all too common. Larry would have surprised few with his revelation and probably would have been happier not trying to hide who he was from his family and friends. I enjoyed your two-act script and the message it conveys.

This is a very strong script you have here. It actually reminds me of house hunting. My boyfriend and I found a lovely house. It was the cleanest house I had ever been in. The closet contained men's clothes only. I was shocked that a single man kept such a clean house. It just so happened that an old acquaintance of my bf lived down the street. She was crossing when we drove past. We stopped to chat. She said, "oh you are looking at Frank and Tom's house?" That's when we realized it. A couple lived there. We didn't buy the house. The cleanliness helped disguise the issues that wouldn't work for us. Wow that was a long story-sorry! I like how you relate the literal closet to the being in the closet. It's a heavy piece thinking about Phil's feeling and also light hearted: Mary offering to pay the rent.

You have dealt thoughtfully with what has been probably a quandary for many in such a relationship. At what point does the wearing of a mask cease and people face facts objectively and with compassion? How deeply do we know our family and to what extent do we wish to protect them? Lots of things to consider in this thought-provoking piece.
