Really really tight. Succinct, poignant, beautifully illustrated, an uplifting message, a celebration of creation, and you rhymed it! an excellent + submission. I am surprised that as a retired teacher in the authors notes you defined the more exotic words(ether quintessence) I'm just sayen as a teacher I thought you would have made them look them up :) Good luck Y.M.

Thanx for stopping by on this contest shortie, Stephen -- trying to spread some sunshine and remind folks that even though things seem 'ominous' on one front, we still have so much to celebrate! :) You know, somebody told me one time that if you have to 'explain' your poem's meaning to people, then it's not a good poem (think it was somebody on here last year or sometime when I used some other obscure words... goodness knows it wasn't something I learned in physics or math classes - lol!) But once in a while I slip into that more obscure mode, I guess, and still want folks to enjoy... ;) :) I am so very glad you enjoyed it, though, Stephen - those stars have made all this 'teacher stuff' a little brighter over here!! ;) :) Take care of you.... and I'll be 'caught up' soon... maybe... I hope... lol! ;) Yvette

I just recently had a conversation with someone about what is a good poem. I have come to the opinion, (and it's just mine) that poetry, art, and beauty are alike in the respect that good/beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For the most part if someone gets what you are saying it's good. if they don't maybe not so good. poetry is art, and the skill comes from being able to communicate an idea creatively. I just updated my profile with my mission statement. I'd like you to take a look at it and tell me what you think. Read you later:) Steve

What a balanced poem, and so rich. I enjoyed reading it very much, and am sure that it will be well-received in the contest. In any case, I wish you goodluck to that end.

Comment from Rhymer
The Quintessence of Life? Why Life itself if one allows! All of those things you mention as the Greeks would have it, but the word means much more to me! For I have been Blessed by the quintessential basics of what for me, has been given freely without any caveats whatsoever. The Greeks had thought the Parthenon was the quintessence of buildings, but many would argue this. For myself 'quintessence of life' means far more than just the ether - which supposedly the Greeks thought existed beyond Earth's boundaries. Rhymer. Just my/a different 'take' on the word Yvette.

This twenty-word poem, Quintessence, has the right word count and offers up the rain as the toast to life and the future beyond the rainbow. .......................
