The six stars say it all. I love your fusion of science, philosophy, and imagination. Now, for that ether. When I had my tonsils out 69 years ago, I remember being scared when they put a white cloth over my face but I could still see this round thing coming down on my nose. Don't remember any champagne! ; ))))

When I had my tonsils out 69 years ago, I remember being scared when they put a white cloth over my face but I could still see this round thing coming down on my nose. Nooooo... not that ether!! ;) I HATED how I felt when I woke up... not only in pain but throwing up and disoriented for hours... This is a lovely little poem, very creative. I am glad you explained the ether part in your notes, it confused me a bit when I first read the poem. Your line - the rich breath of rain- is outstanding. Great image also. Best of luck in the contest.!
