You are right. Enough already with the covid-19. I enjoyed your fun little story. It progressed well. I like the intermittent bites of cake and drinks of coffee--that made it real. The reminiscing about what took place earlier was fun to read. I believe in quiet times such as you had for a few minutes, those thoughts are there to reassure one. Thanks for sharing. Respectfully, Jan

Enjoyed this charming story, especially the cat's tail vs the vacuum cleaner. The description of the chocolate cake made me wish I had a slice with my coffee. I like the touch of humor.

I liked this Mike, I've always enjoyed 'ordinary' stories of people of people doing ordinary things, and you certainly provided that. My kids have long left home, but I still yearn for those days. Beautifully written my friend, blessings, Roy

I could see and taste and hear the family life you described so well in your charming story- layers of small domestic details built from the birthday party; family members' idiosyncrasies, self-deprecatory humour... while most of the time i was waiting for the reveal that the leftover cake was actually real dirt or had been decorated with vacuum cleaner detritus. So glad you got to enjoy it (except for having the last bite to yourself).

Yes you did and yes we all did too if were indeed fortunate enough to have read this in the morning! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this delightfully captivating and whimsically funny narrative. Thank you so much for sharing a slice of your cake and your life with your audience. Expertly crafted!

Great attention to detail makes this collection of little morning moments come alive. I liked how you described the cake, the coffee; those little decadent moments that seem so trivial but in retrospect, constitute a big part of the happiest moments of our life. Great sketchings of the kids capering around, the little girl scaring her brother with that worm. And I liked the description of the vacuum cleaner too; how it devours nails and staples and cat's tails. good touch giving it personality like that. estory

Mike,
It's like Tammy knew, if you weren't in the bedroom, what you were doing, and she wasn't going to let you completely devour that chocolate cake. I like how she stole the last piece.
Last Saturday, I was watching her with an old bowl collecting her morning supply pill (change 'pill' to 'of' I think) bugs and earthworms.
