This is such a touching poem! I got goosebumps while reading. There is such tenderness between the parent and child and an understanding within the child that is beyond her years!

Thank you for sharing!

Diana, often we short sell the wisdom of children, they can be great wisdom weavers if we listen. Thank you!

What a touching story and I can see why it has received All-Time Best status. I did not see a thing out of place to make recommendations about. Great job. Shirley

This is an excellent story as told through the eyes of an adult about a child, J.

Full of emotion and a sad situation told with great heart.

Just one small typo:

I stroked her blond (blonde) curls - blond is male and blonde is female.

Great job and I wish you well in the contest.

Gloria

Very touching and right on spot for how a child sees things versus the adult. Seems as if they can handle the pain and understand whats happening much easier that we can at times. I loved your story and wish you well in the contest. Have a great day!

A very well-written heartfelt story about the world as seen through a child's eyes. They sometimes are more observant than we thought and surprise us when their words make perfectly sense.

I think this is a good entry for the "Through the Eyes of a Child" writing prompt.
This short story tells of a young girl and father coping with a loss.
Well done and I wish you good luck with the contest.

Children do have a way of making things so simple. Their trust in God and Heaven is divine. It's a shame some lose that as they grow up. This is a really lovely flash fiction story. Well done and good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xxx

Sandra, thank you. I am pleased you reviewed and shared your reflections on this. Have a splendid weekend, I am headed out to visit with a female hospice patient who is turning 101 years young on March 19th, a true gift this is for me to do today!

Very beautiful story of a child's acceptance of the death of her mother. it is difficult for a child to understand death and the fact that someone that has always been there for them no longer will be. Excellent, and if I had anymore six stars to give this would definitely gotten one!

SPAG: "I know (that) mom was sick (no need for 'that'.) And would you really say "daughter dearest?" Would a child understand 'eternal rest?' A nice little story. Children are quite grown up around illness. I think this just needs a little spit and polish. Read it back to yourself out loud. With respect. K.

Thanks for your wise input. I have been known to say "daughter dearest" to both of my daughters when they were facing some life hurdles. A bit old school perhaps or family tradition refers to what other people call heaven as "eternal rest." I can see where that might seem sophomoric speaking to a child. I so welcome very reflection and I do pray your week ahead provides wondrous new discoveries!

Yes, a bit old school but hey, that's your way. I was thinking of how your way would be received by readers only. KXX

At first, I questioned why the rhyming scheme. But then when I thought about it and read more, I realized it was perfect for the story. And I could imagine this as great children's Christian story. So glad I pulled out this contest and took a look. Original thoughts. Well written.
