Wow! What a poem and beautiful memorial description of the Lady on the hill! Each stanza describes the daily suffering living action of this gentle, tough, burnt skin, hard-working lady who had gone on living and suffering for her three daughters death and probably also her husband's, in finding a safe evening habour, tired and esaustid, killing her time in agriculture and searching wildlife herbs to make her natural liquor that she had called Hierbas.I can see my dead mother,(a hard working farmer and emigrant of eight bred up children)as she interweaves her way, cutting the willows, in search of particular and specific four herbs; as she washes her clothes and all what she needs, in a large tub with deep cold flowing water pulled up from her hill well (this underlines that there was no running tape water in her house); she dried them on her common opened square square (aia o cortile aperto quadrato o rettagolare)in the wind and under the sun as the smell of the oleander and acacia spread in the air; as she ties up her hair before spreading the full figs or half-cut ones lying in the sun to dry first and then they were ready and warmed up in the oven.Yes, all this was a yearly process preparation for her Hierbas. The Lady on the Hill is also an expert of weaving the cloth and embroiling roses and birds like the Wife of Bath by Chaucer but (a different kind of woman indeed!).Her humbleness, simplicity and kindness is superlative when notwithstanding her unlucky motherly lost, she thinks of another woman' daughter necessity and gives the poetess her hard long working knitting embroidment as a gift for her daughter's marriage as my mother would have done the same. These lost inexsistent people used to give "what they had not" to their neighbors. Thank you Marjon for letting me cry my ignorant mother' s life educative simple teaching method which has given me, eldest son the possibility of being successful in all his life working hard and honestly. A great work and memory, effectively, of other times. A great sincere cultural hug! Blessings! Tony

Tony, what a splendid long review. It became a story in itself. I like the idea that it made you think so strongly of your mother, she surely would have liked my old friend on the hill, for being kindred souls, living of what nature had to offer them, and being content with that. That is why I called the poem "Out of Other Times". People like this do not exist anymore, and that is a pity.
Thanks again for this gorgeous review and your generous 6 stars.

Marjon,
A lovely poem with a touch of sadness. We meet this woman and know much of her from your write. Your writing is tight, concise and provokes imagery. You honor your friend well with this ode.
Blessings,
Richie

What a wonderful poem in tribute to a great memory. Those who have made an impression, or were good examples should be put into poetry for the next generations. Well done!

Thanks for the memories of the old couple who lived on the hill in my younger days. I had not thought of them for years. What a treasure!!

Best of luck with the Pay It Forward contest.

The imagery here is really good. The end is like a flash fiction ending. The s consonant provides nice alliteration too. Very well done and a joy to read.

This is a touching story in a poem. There is a fairy tale feel to it and yet I could picture this old soul embracing life the best way she knew how. And you had the privilege of being a part of that life . Sweet memories, I'm sure. Thank you for sharing.

I have one or two friends who I was close to, they died sometime ago, they were much older than I, I miss them so much. A beautifully written tribute my friend, I loved reading, indeed it's true that in Christ took our sickness, "By His stripes we are healed." Well done, blessings Roy

Thank you for sharing this story poem. Sometimes true stories are the best stories, and I enjoyed reading yours. I like the fanciful illustration you have included as well. My only suggestion would be to perhaps increase the font size and change the background color for better presentation. Good luck with your contest entry!
