What a wonderful story poem, Rod. And, congratulations for winning first in the contest. Your word choices, rhyming and theme are well thought out. Flow is excellent, line to line. I'm glad you let him go. Marilyn

What a great fishing story poem! I guess that Stevie must be a girl? What a different time and place when young kids rode bikes and went fishing and even knew their fish personally! Congratulations on the win!

It was a different time and place and remembering both makes me sentimental. Thank you for sharing my big fish tale, lyenochka, and your kind praise. Rod

Congratulations on your win. You deserved it. I'm glad they let the fish go. He deserved a better fate. Besides, what were they going to do with him? They were fishing out of season and skipping school. Or perhaps it's just a fun fish tale.

Worthy of the win. Well done. Impeccable iamb and solid rhyme throughout. Narrative through line is also solid. I am so pleased that you let him go. DJ

A delightfully flowing fish story with nice tight lines. Easy to see why you reeled in the first prize. I enjoyed reading it, and if it's true, I'm happy you found a mate who also enjoys fishing. My husband wasn't so lucky, but between you and me, I still think he got a good catch!

Thank you, Susan, for your amusing review and the very kind praise of CATCHING THE BIG ONE. No, my spouse does not enjoy fishing, but the ?mate? this story is based on disappeared from my life ages ago. Rod

I love your poem from the first line to the last.
You captured my attention from the start, the best part when you turn the fish loose.
Thank you for sharing.

Very nice poem. I also love to fish, and have since I was so young I can barely remember. We too used to play hooky from school to fish in a small local pond. Those are some of my best memories as a child. Thank you for dredging up those great memories.

Without a doubt; this is a six-star poem and a winner of the contest. I just loved the story, the good poetic style, the length, the simple wording, the end with giving the fish it's freedom back, ...all.
Congrats, I enjoyed this a lot.

A delightful poem about skipping school with your best friend to go fishing. Always after the prize og rainbow trout. To their surprise, after trying for all these years to catch him, and today was the fly day. Once they had him, they felt they had to let him be free.
Good job!
Good luck with the contest.
