I really liked this short haiku. It matched the haiku format perfectly and really painted an image in the readers mind. I love the use of "petrichor" too!

You understand how the haiku works, it isn't always that one comes across a word they don't know, (except for Lynochka, Helen) beautifully written my friend, "petrichor" I'll have remember that one, brilliant entry, blessings, Roy

-Very nice image
and presentation, Janet.
-A well written haiku
with good syllable count,
nature, and seasonal imagery.
-I like the topic and the place.
-We can anticipate the rain
because of the scent in the air.
-A good satori line, too.
-Good luck in the contest.

Hello Janet. I too am familiar with that smell after a rainstorm. If there has been lightning in the area it's actually ozone.
Your haiku poem appears to meet the standard for the poem. I don't write haiku because I've been told I don't meet the standard in virtually every one I've written.
Good luck in the contest.

I didn't know about the lightning in the area and it being the ozone. I learn something everyday here.

I really enjoyed this lovely read on one of my favorite things - the scent borne on rain-freshed air. I love that there's a word for it, a word I first discovered when looking for a good obscure word :) Well done. Good luck in the contest.

True - the smell after the rain - it's something special - glad you defined that word for us. Good poem and the picture with it also. I've always wanted to see those mountains - but we have great ones in the Northwest as well.
Good job.

Thank you Gail for your thoughtful and encouraging review. You do have beautiful mountains in the northwest. I love to visit there but have not for many years.

I enjoyed your haiku. It is in good form. Your words flow well and paint a picture for readers even if a picture had not been included. However, you picture is beautiful and a good pairing with you words. I like the way your satori reads--petrichor--it is a good choice. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Respectfully, Jan

Yes, the smell of rain coming. Mother painted five horses running free and happy under stormy black clouds. She told me when I was nine that I too am like the wild horses when it's going to rain--running around everywhere free and full of laughter. Your words and picture brought back lovely memories of home. Thank you.
