Thank you for reminding me of the pleasant fragrance rain often has and the name for it. I enjoyed your descriptive 4-6-3 haiku and the perfectly parallel artwork. Best wishes in the competition- Joan

Fan Story is really giving me a hard time. It took over 60 seconds to pull this up. Anyway, you did a good job with this short, short. Terrific image with words that compliment it. Rain clouds aren't so bad as long as they don't turn into tornadoes. Hugs, Lou

I think that this is a lovely haiku. I thank you for teaching me a new word. Petrichor is a strong word. I should have known that.
I am no haiku expert, but you seem to follow all of the important rules. You connect two occurences in nature--rain clouds and their presence over the Blue Ridge Mountains-- and define the significance of the connection through the word petrichor. I am in the moment with you. I would love to smell it. There's nothing like that odor.
Good luck in the contest. I would expect this to do well.

Very nice poem of coming rain in the Blue Ridge Mountains. My grandparents lived in Asheville when I was a kid, and some of my best memories of those times were when I would stay with them during the summer. Thank you for bringing back those memories

Oh! I love that smell too, and that's not the only imagery your wonderful haiku evokes -- I remember the beauty of those mountains. Driving though the state is a treasured memory.

This is nicely composed, Janet. I know that earthy scent. Is that your photo? I lived in Tennessee for about 10 years. A beautiful state. Best of luck in the contest. Marilyn

Hello Jmf4119, a terrific Tuesday to you. I hope this finds you well. Thank you for sharing your poem, I liked it, and Blue Ridge Mountains is in my neck of the woods in WV. I counted your syllables a few times and they seem off, I could be wrong but you might want to double check. Have a great day!

Thank you for your thoughtful review and kind comments.

I should have put more information in my notes. Unlike a 5/7/5 poem, a haiku has 17 syllables or less. It is written in a short - long - short line format. It should have a reference to a season and have some sensory appeal. There are many guidelines for this Japanese Short Form poetry. It has been a whole new thought process for me.

    Thanks again.

Good luck in the contest. I enjoy reading short haiku poems. A lot can be said in such few words. I love a good summer rain as it cools the earth down.

Yes the smell of the ground after the rains bless it after a dry spell is petrichor, a favorite word among poets here. Beautiful picture and nicely done haiku. Best wishes in the contest!
