The funny thing that people completely overlook, that to my knowledge there is no suggestion in scripture, (which is my authority to write anything.) betrothal is the only ceremony that I can see in the old testimony that was necessary, (I suspect marriage law is man conceived) the consummation of the Union was the marriage! It's just that Paul says in 1Corinthians 6:16, "if one joins with a harlot they become one with that Harlot" it seems to me that, before God's eyes, virginity is so important. It's fidelity that's true, but relations have to with what fits with what. Even instruments of tradesman are called male and female, they need to fit, people never argue logically, therefor anything that doesn't fit, or in fact is unnatural or is infidelity is sin. God cannot be unfaithful to His own nature. That's where man has sown his own "oats" but even that can be forgiven. People choose their own destiny, Well done Liz, blessings,

The beautiful artwork is a perfect match for this well written piece.
This topic seems to never go away, although it should have been laid to rest long ago. Equality should mean just that. It should not be something we have to constantly fight for.

I'm going to a same-sex wedding next March, my niece and her lady, and I wish them every happiness.
I have to say you spoke out marvellously. The argument you made was eloquent and honest. What does it matter to anyone else how one person chooses to live their lives. Do those people not have a life of their own, that they feel they have the right to interfere with others? Perhaps their own lives are lacking in some way. Well done, Liz, I thought this was well written and an excellent read. Sandra xxx

There are two genders male and female there are some psychologically altered to believe they are not what they were assigned at birth. This makes them different not special. Take the urinals out of mens rooms and install stalls and the problem is solved. Then everyone goes where ever.

I never did understand the objection to or even the desire for legal marriage for single sex couples. Why? The whole institute of the legal (not spiritual) of marriage was to provide for the woman who didn't have much recourse legal. Until too recent history, women had no legal rights. Legal marriage provided for them in the case of divorce or widowhood. Some gay married people may regret having pay more because of the relationship. Unfortunately, many company benefits were given to only married people. A set number of beneficiaries should be allowed no matter the gender. That would make this whole gay marriage conflict be a non-issue. As always, you're an eloquent writer!

I thought your essay was an honest look at both sides of the coin on complicated issues. That scene of the bearded man in the ladies room was an eyebrow raiser. I think its important to consider issues carefully when making legislation, and that is certainly not being done now in an age where the popular opinion of the moment trending on Facebook drives everyone's decision making. estory

Very well written with great points to consider and I see a bit of humor as well. And... I've always thought those who say a gay marriage can't bring forth children so it isn't biblical - What about birth control? How is that different? Actually it could be considered worse as it is rejection as opposed onto unable. Either way, usually not a topic over a dinner table or big family gathering. Disaster usually strikes. :P

Ps - I'm going to try and catch up with commenting tomorrow I hope. I've been busy getting ready for a vacation trip.

It is a crazy world we live in, Liz. It seems as though that 'debate' was one-sided and already 'approved' before it began. The questions about the other issues you brought up are real and it seems no one wishes to be first to touch them. You did a good job with your article.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, â?¤ Jan

Thanks for your thoughtful remarks Jan. This event was not set up to be a debate--the panel just spoke and answered questions from the audience--all of whom were in sympathy with their position. I was pleased that the paper printed this letter. Cheers. LIZ

You point out quite eloquently in both scenarios how people fear change from the norm. Part I-- seems men love more and more to grow beards, it's easy to picture the transgender one overtaking the ladies' room.
Part II-- compelling arguments for the ridiculous rule of gay marriage because it doesn't lead to procreation.

Maybe covid 19 will get these people who wear blinders but not masks.
