"What life may be, if it weren't for me." Victortouche "We have met the enemy and he is us." Pogo "You must put in play something of yearning today." Victortouche "Everyday, give yourself something to look forward to" Advice from a bereaved parent after I lost my first son 22 years ago. Today, I'm going to pack up all the cereal boxes my church saves for the Apparent Project, a ministry in Haiti that provides income for parents who make jewelry and ornaments out of them so they can keep their children at home and not have to give them up to possible child sex traffickers. And then, after I get all that crap out of my pantry and in the mail, so I have room to stockpile more crap, I'm going to pour a glass of wine. I'll think of you while I sip it.

Thank you for the author's notes, otherwise, you lost me several stanzas ago! But I do agree if you don't try nothing will ever happen. I had a teacher in grade school and if she taught me anything. she taught me this: "It's better to aim for the moon and hit the treetops than to aim at nothing and hit it!" Her other one was "Can't never did anything! He died in the battle of try!" ok I'm done with my lessons now for the day!
God bless!

This excellent, thought-provoking poem is an example of soul-searching at its best and most powerful. We think of good things about ourselves that we let fall by the wayside, scold ourselves, and maybe--just maybe--
go into retrieve and complete mode! :-)

Just maybe, yes, I think that's right. Thank you.

You are so right! I should motivate myself to do more, then perhaps I might chance on the route to success. I think fear and self doubt is the thing that stops most of us. It's that we must push out the way if we want to go forward. I enjoyed your poem, well done! :) Sandra xxx

Hi this is a very intriguing write and I was able to get a bit out by reading the note below. Still I like it and the last few lines are very illuminating but deep. Just dreaming is not going to change anything, dare and Actaeon!

Yep, right where I am. I comfort myself with the thought that I give my very best in all I do. I'm not a perfectionist, mind you, just my all. Like love, writing or any self expression is really about heart, soul and spirit. If I can see the overall picture instead of the line by line, I'm good.
I appreciate this poem so much. I'll try to walk without the net more often. A good reminder to continue on and not look down.
Sending you my best today as always,
Sal xo

Victor, a very fine presentation about pulling oneself up by the bootstraps and getting out a life's constant ruts. Thanks for your contribution to FanStory, Write on and write often! JLR

This free verse uses the short lines and stanzas to increase the emotion of the poem. It seems this person doesb't believe he will make it to Heaven because of his sins. What happened to the idea of forgiveness in this poem.
Keep writing

Excellent poem to, as you say, self-motivate. Very well-written, I particularly love "walk without the net", something all us often fear. Wonderful use of words, and you chose a beautiful image to complement it. Thanks for sharing this!
