First Love Cuts the Deepest

Did Sheryl Crow sing "The first cut is the deepest"? Just a reef that leaves wounds that never heal, so too do you keep the scars. They may no longer hurt as much as, but they remain.

No, it's a cat Stevens's song.
Thank you very much for the review.

Hi Gypsy,
Those coral reefs are sharp like little razors. Yes first love gone wrong or just ending does cut the deepest. Seems to be the one we rember the longest as well even if it was really bad. Sounds like yours was really nice.
Great haiku for a first love.

I* like the words to your poem and the photo.
They brought back memories of sixty years ago that when I met my first love , my first everything and the first to break my heart.

Ah, sweet memories of first love. This well crafted haiku captures the agony and the ecstasy of that first connection. And it usually is a deep one. I enjoyed your trip into the past.

I see you are adept at short form poetry (congratulations on winning with your Joker review). In this haiku you have painted the scene well in depicting your time at the seaside and the concept of first love cuts deepest linked to the sharp reef.

Hi Gypsy,
Very sensual summary and memoir of your first love. Ever so true,
it is that very first awareness and electrifying feeling of a sudden
or gradually evolving first love. Virtually unforgettable, and
irreplaceable; no matter how many or kind of loves thereafter.
My first love...similar to this story....except for different time
and place and name. There were no other comparable 'Leland's'
in my first love story. Thus yours here, had an instant draw
and recall for me! Thanks for sharing dear!

This can take many people back memory lane. First loves are not forgotten easily. Sometimes they are lessons learned and we become wiser from experiencing them.

I especially liked the resonating final line of your haiku that echoes the sharpness of the reef. Thank you for sharing the additional context in your notes and adding the reinforcing photo. Sighs- Joan

Vivid, apt imagery. I like the summer sharp coupled with cuts. Good for you to give credit to Cat for borrowing his lyric--on which you certainly put your own clever twist. Cheers. LIZ
