Dear Liz,
Your essay on friendship analyzes a meaningful area of life-- without, thank god, taking the stance of being an expert on friendship.
I'm blown away by the friend who answered Auburn's call for help. His mind-boggling gesture alone makes your essay worth reading. I'm so grateful to hear, even third hand, about someone being a real friend.
And I'm so grateful to hear about how you, Emerald, had an opportunity to be a real friend. Even if you exaggerated part of your friend's problem, because you are Emerald, after all, the important point about friendship remains.
And that also means there's hope for me.
sincerely,
roberta

Ha, ha, ha I don't know how you do it, transforming a tragedy into a comedy. You, my pen friend, are the best master of disguise. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your next fab story.

This was an interesting story that really made me think about friends in my past. I agree with you about friends and "friends". Sometimes a stranger can be more of a friend than the one that we call "best friend". Sometimes we find friendship where we are not expecting it.

Thanks for stopping by Brandi! I appreciate your thoughtful remarks--it's certainly demoralizing when a "friend" sprouts quotes--on the other hand, it's uplifting to find a friend unexpectedly! Cheers. LIZ

Aside from struggling to figure out who had the awful, no good, very bad, and should move to Australia, a good story about a true test of friendship. When you've dealt with the minor disappointents of life while your friend's life fell apart.

Thank you, Darlene. Regarding who should move to Australia--beats the hell out of me! (Though I can think of a few I'd like to send there.) Cheers. LIZ (Regarding my real-life friend--the good news is that her crisis resolved within the week; the bad news is that a month ago she got hit by a car when cycling and is laid up with multiple fractures.)

I was referring to the kid's book, The Awful, No Good, Very Bad Day. When after bad event the kid says :"I think I should move to Australia."
Let's see, I'm glad her crisis was resolved, and hopefullhy the fractures heal well?!

This has me riveted from the Christian counselor to the running friend. It could easily be worthy of six stars if were a dad less preachy here and there in part 1. I like the blend of humor and pathos.
