Huh, that's quite an interesting approach to the topic, I loved it. It's very relatable, I think. All in all, I really enjoyed reading this wonderfully written poem.

This is such a classic piece that will entertain and enthrall many more generations! With much need for tissues! I'm so glad you chose to highlight this particular event of the month. Sweet memories.

Ah, it is odd how certain films withstand the test of time better than others. A solid script and two timeless, bankable stars help.
Good choice for the contest. Best of luck.
Peace, Lee

They don't make stars the way they used to! Some of these old films are timeless in their appeal. Your poem shows how that fondness for them can span the generations.

Such memories of this screen romance and the truth about these actors is far from true in their real lives, but they brought their story to the big screen and this is forever in your memory, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

Be still, my heart! OK, that was not in the subject film, but it does describe the feeling left by the final scene. (even crotchety old men like me liked it as well -- I saw it in its first showings). Enough sentiment - a great poem, well written in good metre and rhyme. I note you are a scientist liking sci/fi and fantasy. I am an old engineer with just the same tastes -- Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, Herbert and Tolkein for the fantasy. I love the way you write. To me poetry means rhyme, metre, form. I look forward to reading more from you.

Reg

This is a wonderful entry for the February poem contest. You picked a great topic with this classic movie. You did justice to one of my all-time favorite movies. Nice trip down memory lane. Good luck in the contest.

Ah my dear Yvette,
Truly, this is also my all time favorite romantic movie, and I still get
misty eyed whenever I hear mention of it, and whenever it is shown
as a movie on good movie channel, I watch it with a full supply of
Kleenex hand for the still inevitable tear jerker it is! Finally got me
a movie tape of it, and whenever I play it; oh my, love it just as much
as the first time I saw it.
This is a beautiful love story and romance, at a time and era when
romantic movies were not so explicit and erotic; yet enough was
there of mystery, intrigue, suspense, and love's triumphs, even if
a too sad ending, still love's victory even after intermittent tragedy.
I'm with you on it being a forever heart wrenching love story
and incomparable compared to so many that never even came close.
Thanks for sharing this one dear, and still climbing that ladder
to catch up! And you're still winning all along the way...Congrats,
many times over! :) ;)
Love. blessings always, Ronni

Gosh, I have just ALWAYS loved this movie from the time that I could understand what was going on! ;) You know, the whole plot line that he wanted to prove that he could live on his home before they tied the knot is slowly becoming 'anathema' in our society with so many young folks living at home faaar too long... spells the downfall of the number of marriages that happen and a growing percentage of marriages that fail because they have not tasted independence before becoming part of a pair...(course that's just this silly ol' blonde teacher's opinion...).
Always so wonderful to hear from you, my Beautiful friend, and thank you so very much for your stars... I do so enjoy hearing from you ... not for the stars but because we seem to be on the same wavelength in many areas.... would love to just have coffee or tea one day (and I promise to wear my white hat with the big black bow if you wear yours!!)... :) Take care! ;) Yvette

You bet I would be glad to
dear to have that coffee or tea with you too, anytime, hats
and all the great time..would
dearly love it!!!
Best part about this movie,
is that while I lived in CA, I
actually got to meet Deborah
Kerr in person...have to share
that surprise and forever
memorable incident. She was
my all time favorite star for
years & wrote her many fan
mails, and by gosh, got
answered!
We do indeed seem to be very
much on same wave length
in so many ways...I love it..
and very special to me too!
Always, Ronni

First of all, I remember that wonderful movie! And now, I get to remember your wonderful poetic expression of your mom's reaction to it and in later years, you own. Well written.
