I read this several times and still not sure - the verses are easy but the meaning I did wonder about at the conclusion. However, I have to say that I am certainly no expert and do hesitate to make comments which I sometimes struggle with.

So, I would not be too hard on yourself. My poetry often, and especially this one, should be felt and not cognitively dissected. You have done just that. Take from it what it stirs in you and forget anything else. Thank you. Doug

I don't think you're daft. The rest of the world is. I like the line about painting bearing witness to the social undergrowth. I wonder what some of these artists have seen.

Often after reading your poems, I love to sit with you over a cup of coffee and see exactly what your thought process was as your wrote the poem. This poem is no different. Thank you for sharing.

Aaah... so the jabberwocky hath invaded thine painting and corrupted your mind such that you see what the major undercurrent of society has become, hmmm? You know, I've heard it said that inhaling the essence of the blue and other strong pigments can lead to such gentle fulminations against where it seems we're headed, but I really did not believe it until now... :) :) :) Would that we could make sense of the 'negative space' that invades social media to the point of running like the sewer drains of the human mind and hardened hearts.... but painting? Yes, painting must be an awesome escape, Victor... I envy you to look at the distortion and paint it for what it is: madness and salvation...yes? :) : ) :)
Have missed you, my friend! So good to read you once again! Yvette

Jesus, what an insightful review. You continue to amaze? No, and yes, of course. But, amaze is not the most succinct word I'm looking for. Your reviews reveal your mind. And how beautiful it is. I look forward to your reviews with a certain amount of child-like giddiness. Of which, I remain mildly embarassed. Never the less, they are priceless. Thank you. Doug

I could make some sense upto the last three stazas. The free verse is interesting and sounds like the stream of consciousness writing. Wilhelm's identity is not explained. The german emperor, the one who invented X ray,or a famous psychiatrist?
Anyway this gave a good exercise to my brain.

You have a good memory. And a wonderful way of using your words as an artist uses their brush and canvas. I really enjoyed reading the poem. You did a great job capturing the way that an artist feels about their work and their self. Art, both of picture and of word, is the act of giving birth to a part of your soul and presenting it to the world.

It's quite quizzical indeed. I recognize that painting of the death of Socrates. I don't know who Wilhelm is nor if there is a special relationship with the narrator who would like to be free of corporate madness.

"Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:"

Beautifully done! It must have been a real challenge using the ol' English, if you will. I could not have said it any better... Articulate!

My favorite part was, "undetected roughness
sublimely submerged
'neath a roiled
juggernaut
of corporate madness." Because of your word usage and the alliteration with the words sublimely submerged!
