What an interesting, relatable poem. Your great description sets the scene nicely and your word choice lets the reader feel the love, the loneliness your character has now he's away. How the memory lingers on. Nicely done.

Enjoyed this pensive-romantic free verse, Melissa. I like that the memories of that loved one is translated to a song that makes the narrator dance even when alone.

Your concise, powerful free verse poem conveys a touching message about how everyday scenes--a walk, pebbles . . . --can conjure up memories of someone we miss.

Hi Melissa
I want to share this song with you. It's by Shari Ulrich, a wonderful singer/songwriter who lives in British Columbia. Canadian talent! I discovered her a couple of years ago, and purchased two of her CDs. I love her talent, and especially this song called "Everlasting Great Regret". I hope you enjoy it. It reminded me of a lost love from the days of my youth.

Her words compliment your poem better than any review I could offer. It came to mind as soon as I read "Hazy Mists".
Hugs,
Kimbob

This is lovely. I especially like dancing with the pebbles, not knowing the tune the loved one knows. I like the theme of this very much. Wonderful picture.

It's a cold, lonely scene. Dancing among the pebbles won't bring much comfort. The woman has been disappointed in romance, but she consoles herself with the thought that there's still a little bit of him left in her memory that she dances with. Dear Abby says there's no future in dancing with a memory, so forget him and move on. (I can't help giving advice occasionally. This gal needs it.) This is beautifully and gracefully worded. judi

This is so touching. I don't know if this is truth or fiction, but it is beautifully written. I love the line about dancing with the pebbles that crowd up to the edge. It is superbly written. The image is lovely. Thanks for sharing this with us!

Your loss you describe in your free verse seems so real. I was touched by your dancing with the memories of a lost love. The artwork you selected helped to establish the mood for this poem. Sighs- Joan

Yes, those memories of a loved can still comfort us when we are alone, and I relate to those pebbles as a trigger for those memories although we all have different triggers, an excellent and beautiful read****kahpot
