I'm under-accomplished too but that doesn't mean we can't write so write on, Rikki. All trades and professions are needed if a society is to function well.

I feel where you're coming from. I am a retired janitor from a local elementary school. I used to clean up poop and vomit off of the floor. But all of these teachers and professors have helped me to become a better writer. I thank them every chance I get. Best of luck with your writing!

You're not alone but I guess it just goes to show how many people across a spectrum needs to pour out themselves through writing. I still struggle with "spags" But I have to think that like anything it's a craft and if you keep at it, nobody can keep you from greatness. If I remember correctly I think da Vinci was snubbed and couldn't attend the elite school of his peers because of his birth status, so he made nature his school. Well nobody today denies his genius. Chin up, everyone may write but it doesn't necessarily make what they write good. - Brenda

This is a well-written blurb. No, you are not under accomplished. I was an accountant for only two years and became a stay at home mom fifteen years ago. I personally find working in a oilfield quite accomplished. I couldn't ever do that job. It would be hard work, and I am weak. You are also a good writer. Keep up the great work!

This is a well-written blurb. No, you are not under accomplished. I was an accountant for only two years and became a stay at home mom fifteen years ago. I personally find working in a oilfield quite accomplished. I couldn't ever do that job. It would be hard work, and I am weak. You are also a good writer. Keep up the great work!

That you could be an accountant for two years beats the heck out of me, I let the wife do the checkbook. The hardest part about the oilfield was being away from home.

Love the blurb... although, I'm gonna take issue with the 'simple people' part: I don't for a moment think that an oilfield worker is simple! They work their asses off to bring that paycheck home!! ;) Tell you what, MOST of the doctors, lawyers, and even the rocket scientist couldn't hope to keep up with a day that you used to work... so 'under-accomplished' is a really BAD word. It's all relative: yours was more physical, but we couldn't hope to do our job without the oil that you brought in: gas, electronic ceramics, plastics, rocket/airplane/vehicle... all oil products! :) :) 'Thiers' was more mental, and they kept you healthy/out of jail or happily divorced (not that you needed it - lol - just an example!!)/provided for advancements in the defense of the country...
And here endeth the soapbox for the evening.... suffice to say, however, that together we are a whole. Period. No such thing as this 'under-accomplished' bullshite... ;) :) So, offer to buy me a beer and we'll move on... LOL! LOL! I'll have an Abita Mardi Gras Bock (they are in season now, right?!) and an oyster po-boy, please....

I am glad my little blurb inspire you to shout back at me. That way we can have a dialogue. My first title was Ordinary People, but that has done been used for a movie. I know there are not many people that could do the oil field work, because I saw so many come and go during my 25 years. It takes a lot to work 12+ hours a day 7 days a week for up to a month at a time. We had to be simple or just a little crazy. You are working on a bomb that can go off with the least mistake. The Deepwater Horizon just one example.
I do not down play any other profession, I am sure there are simple and crazy people there too.
