Thanx for your review on this one, sir: I do so enjoy playing with a presence of mythology in the present -- kindof an easy escape when you don't have a lot of time on your hands! And who doesn't like the 'quick escape' without chemical assistance?! LOL! ;) :) :) Take care and have an awesome weekend down over there!! ;) Yvette

Good luck in the contest. Charles was having a bad night even before he went into the bar. He was having memories he could not recall, he walked on leaden legs, he was having lascivious thoughts, (love that word). The single coin, he should have known he win trouble.
Thank you for the refresher in Greek mythology.
Rikki

Ooooo, don't you 'just'?! It's one of those words that carries every bit of its connotation! ;) LOL! ;) Thanx for your review on this one, Rikki: I do so enjoy playing with a presence of mythology in the present -- kindof an easy escape when you don't have a lot of time on your hands! By the title and the line above it, I had no idea it was headed where it went. Thinking it was about another 'last call for drinks' story, I read on. It was quite entertaining and written well. Then, the somewhat underplayed reference to a massacre by a gun-wielding person, let me know a little more about what was to happen. I still did not know he was dead until "the memory of gunshots and pain ripped through Charles..." and then, he realizes it is too late for Brandy and too late for himself, he was already dead. The references to the Greek character of death was more obvious. I liked learning about the passageway to Hades, and other stories you told. Both in your Flash Fiction and in your author's notes. The surprise ending was very startling and effective. You drew me into reading about mythology when I wouldn't have chosen it if I had known. Now I know more and am more interested. I thank you for that.
Very well written with suspense, drama, a little dark horror, and a surprise ending. What's not to like? Thank you for sharing this tale.
Take care, Jesse

Oh, Jesse, you are too awesome!! What a wonderful review, my friend -- I am so very glad you enjoyed this one (even though it could be considered 'dark', I guess...didn't set out to write dark, but I just go with the muses, ya know?) I've always enjoyed playing with a presence of mythology in the present -- kindof an easy escape when you don't have a lot of time on your hands! And who doesn't like the 'quick escape' without chemical assistance?! LOL! ;) :) :) Take care and have an awesome weekend out there - those stars have already brightened mine!! ;) Yvette

Your contest entry is well-written, YM. I enjoyed reading it. I could see the action as it unfolded. I'm familiar with the River Styx, but was still engaged by how you 'put this together.' Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Respectfully, Jan

Such a dark and moody write, Yvette. Well done on setting the scene and building believable characters with diabolical dialogue... I love those two words together... LOL. Good luck on the contest!!

Scary this one. It chilled me to the bone! It would qualify as a horror story for a contest, too. Good entry just before the clock tolls midnight. Sending you my best today as always, and best wishes for the contest,
Sal xo

I enjoyed reading your story. I really didn't know where you were going with it. But I found out soon enough with the surprise ending. The characters are realistic.

This is an engaging story with a surprise ending which is not totally a surprise since it was indeed foreshadowed. It is a well written tale and an excellent contest entry.

Hello Y M. Roger,
Nice piece of General Fiction in the form of Flash Fiction meeting the desired norms, and beautifully depicting its theme.
Impressive, and perfectly matching the theme wording.
Smooth, spontaneous, and captivating flow throughout from the beginning to the end.
Best of Luck!
