Creative approach to the prompt, Yvette. This is a chilling write. I did have to suspend my pesky logical mind on several occasions. But that's okay. The important thing is the impact of the tale on the reader. And you nailed that my friend.

Best wishes for the contest. I think your entry will be recognized for its sheer creativity and powerful writing.

Blessings Julia

Yeah, Julia - this is one of those 'suspend and have fun' ones!! ;) I do so enjoy playing with a presence of mythology in the present -- kindof an easy escape when you don't have a lot of time on your hands! And who doesn't like the 'quick escape' without chemical assistance?! LOL! ;) :) :) Take care and have an awesome weekend out there!! ;) Yvette

Thank goodness I had a six star rating for this one, Yvette. I think you can start counting your winnings. It's a 'sure thing' if that is possible with the reviewing committee. On a related topic, I definitely consider myself a fan of yours, but I am unaware of your 'modern romance' with the Greco-Roman Pantheons. What have I missed? It's probably evident in your fantasy writings, and I have just missed the connection. I must pay more attention and educate myself a little better.

Naah, seems fantasy is not a 'top' thing with folks here, which is cool, but you know I LOVE IT!! ;) :) :) (even though this one could be considered 'dark', I guess...didn't set out to write dark, but I just go with the muses, ya know?) Oh, and it has been a while with me and mythology in the modern world...need to do a few more, I think. They're probably waaaay back in the portfolio - couples, mostly, but they were fun!! They're kindof an easy escape when you don't have a lot of time on your hands! And who doesn't like the 'quick escape' without chemical assistance?! LOL! ;) :) :) Take care and have an awesome weekend down there - those stars have already brightened mine!! ;) Yvette

Yvette, I really enjoyed reading this creative story that brought to life this story about death involving The ancient Greek beliefs about the underworld and the afterlife. Thanks for sharing some good food for thought. Bill

Yessiree, I knew it the minute his shirt had a metallic taste, and yup, the coin being his last would have to be to pay the ferryman. (I wrote a poem about him a couple of years ago... LOL) But that I didn't guess immediately -- not until it was picked up by someone other than the bartender.

Well done, but then that's no surprise. Rich detail, believable characters, lots of 'action', well-anchored scenes and the pacing was excellent, as was the dialogue. What's not to love?

Good luck in the contest. :)

I like the dream-like description you created and then it cleared up when Charles learned what was really happening. Liked the Biblical terms as well as the Greek mythology you added in.

Shouldn't Methuselah be capitalized? Otherwise it's a really big wine bottle.

I enjoyed this very much. I must admit that in my misspent youth, I've had a few evenings like this that could have brought me to Charon unexpectantly. I always enjoy classic tales and this was a great spin on a legend and a process.

I thought this was a clever way to blend modern and mythical, so that readers might see mythological allusions are not so hard to merge with present-day life. That is interesting to make Charon a 'behemoth' of a man, maybe to instill more fear in the crossers. Great play on words with Brandy as a drink and a girl's name. Thanks for posting.

I enjoyed reading this. You know how to build suspense. I like the mythology you used and also appreciate that you left notes to remind us, in case we forgot the characters of the mythology. Only one thing confused me. When Brandy came through the door and their eyes met. Is Brandy alive and if so can she see him. Is this real bar or something connected with the underworld? Maybe I should just say you are good writer and leave it at that.
