Hello again, Sankey,
I have no concrete answers to the questions you pose. I know that I often read an offering but do not review it if past experience with the writer is to argue with me regarding my suggestions or mock me for my educator's/writer's background. I also do not review work that is simply rehashed previously posted work. Many folks do not care to be "enlightened;" instead they want to be massaged into thinking their work is "great!" If I can offer suggestions, I surely do.
Thank you!

Thanks Diane. In the past I have had some reviews that on first reading I was a bit offended. Then I would go back and realize the advice given was worth more thought and if needed, acting upon. Loved your review thanks.

Hello, again. I never look to see how many folks read my work but don't review it--that's too depressing! I enjoyed your rhymed quatrains and clever use of "wheels". Cheers- Joan

Thanks Joan I loved your review. I just got a bit curious seeing some of my stuff had been up for so long.

I think people take a look, see how long the post is, and skip the review because of the length. I don't this is a valid reason but am aware that many are looking for quick to read posts that offer more award. I also think many are unfamiliar with the author and do not take the time to fan them. My reviews have drastically dropped to half of what they were two years ago.

I am sorry to hear your reviews have dropped off. People don't know what they are missing. I still enjoy reading about YOU and the terrific couple you have being such a help. Your daughters are gonna regret so much not keeping in touch with you. Love you old friend. Thanks for coming by.

One finally emailed me but she has not responded to my replies.

It also helps if you review. When I don't get many reviews, I get discouraged about doing any reviewing myself. You have an excellent point to consider in this. We can express our appreciation for those who de read and review. Some people who review, especially those new to the site, are likely to give fairly low ratings without offering anything constructive. Great work with your rhyme in this. judi

Thank you for writing this my friend. Some days we are looking for the factory dollars to promote our own work and other days we have more tie and can review like we should. Thank you my friend for the great reminder to us all. May God bless you! Teri

Thanks Sis. I do appreciate your lovely review. Hope that hacker has been sent packing over on Facebook. I had another person or their hacker doing the same thing about the big bucks support for disabled and elderly etc. Lord Bless.

Greetings!
As a relatively new member to FS, I was thinking that this was the norm. Your post has me thinking that perhaps this is a change in recent times?
I have similar issues. I had one poem with many views(in the 30's) and only 6 reviews. What's up with that?
I am truly looking for some critiques. I need people to tell me, work on your phrasing, fix this, etc.
Mostly I get "good poem".
But I feel like I can't give critiques either. My first week here on FS~before I knew the ropes~I gave someone a critique, and paid a price.
Rock and hard place.
Blessings to you,
Beth

Not to depress you, new friend. There is so much good about this place and if you go back through some of the earlier chapters in this collection you will learn the other side. I appreciate your lovely review thanks. Might message you elsewhere ok.

Well written poem that makes a strong point. I don't believe the lack of reviews has much to do with writing quality. Probably more a matter of appeal.
I don't get many reads nor that many reviews. But I value those who take the time to leave comments, however few they are. I enjoy the writing process and the company of fellow writers.
Hope your ratio of reviews improves very soon.
Blessings Julia

A questioning write here and I expect people have little time to spend reviewing and would rather just have their work reviewed, but we rely on those who review to help us with our work. I can't think of any suggestions for you today except to say this is a poignant write, love Dolly x

There are many arguments I think, for this phenomenon. I have two points to offer for your consideration. One is the fault of many writers who want an ego stroke rather than honest constructive criticism. The other is the fault of the system, with its minimal length requirement. Some pieces lend themselves to short reviews, and I have given up on several occasions rather than writing trivia.

I understand and the minimal length thing gets right up my nose, too. I was on my way elsewhere but some kind soul wanted me to stay longer and sponsored me for another year. So many issues about this place. Thanks for coming by. I will post more on my issues with personal stuff (cancer etc) soon.

You shouldn't be having that problem because your poetry is good and is worth stopping to comment. The only time I look and run is when the work is so confusing I have no idea of what to say. I get a lot of that too. I think it is because It is longer than they feel they want to spend. This poem makes people stop and think about how they the writer feels, when they leave without reading .

Thanks Beth. You were gone a long time I think? I remember your reviews of my autobiography a long time ago it still hasn't been published but getting closer to that. Loved your review thanks.
-
Yes, I left in 2013. I was in a writing group here for while. This takes a lot of time. I was surprised when I came back that I'd left behind over $900 member and some other things that were still available to use. There was also things I'd written and forgotten about in my portfolio.
-
Yeah well I was on my way out due to our terrible exchange rate between $AUD and the greenback and some other reasons but someone wanted me to stay and sponsored me for another year. So here i am still and glad to catch up with you.guess you know Michael Cahill died and Dean Kuch. Charley Lewis if you remember him has probably passed away as well.
-
I didn't know about those. There are at least three of the women I used to follow that I think have died. One died recently. Her daughter posted some last month about it.
-
Phyllis Stewart was the recent one another one I wrote a tribute to in my Geoff['s Muses I think.
-
Yes that is the one I was trying to remember. There was a poet that went by a name something like AdieuPearl. Do you know what happened to her? Her real name might have been Brooke.
-
I remember Pearl. Not sure where she went. Possibly passed on, not sure. Some others might know.
-
I saw something someone wrote back years ago that they were heartbroken about hearing of her diagnosis. I assumed she passed on,
