My beloved cat passed the Rainbow Bridge last November too; she was only 8 years old and the best baby I ever had. Thinking of her brings back the good memories but also the fact that she is not with me anymore. I guess you never get over the lost of a dear one. You lie to yourself that is going to be easier in time, but is not.

So true. Scruffles passed in reality, about 14 years ago but I still miss him. The saddest right now is Sweet Puppy who passed last Jan. I got a cat so there would be another heartbeat in this house besides the mice and spiders. But it is never a replacement. It is just another held dearly in our hearts.
I'm sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing this with me.

This is a very sweet, but very sad chapter you have penned. You used great descriptive words and amazing art work that looks like it could be the opening to the rainbow bridge. I enjoyed reading and reviewing this. Thank you for sharing. love and blessings, Teri

This is such a sad, tender chapter in a story of which I have only read one other chapter, previously. It is very sweet, how you have made your animal friends come back to life in your writing.

Spags found:

No raccoon, cat pushing a bowl of tuna, was heard at all. (I think you meant "no raccoon cat")

sounding along the cave walls in the sad sad silence. --> sad, sad silence

Bea and Sweet Puppy woke to sounds of rain at the mouth of their cave home where Scruffle used to sit. --> Scruffles

I am so sorry for all of your losses, both partner and pets. Your story is very well written.

Oh this is very sad. Scruffles leaving to go to Rainbow Bridge and the sadness of Bea and Sweet Puppy going back to the cave pinpointed the difficult time we all have when one leaves us. Marilyn

Thank you for your caring review. He lives on in my writings. I also just rescued another Maine Coon much like Scruffles. I had 2 others who were considered unadoptable because they were 11 years old. They lived to be 19 & 20. Now I've got one who was found at 5 months old with all his siblings dead. They saved him & now I have him. He, like Scruffles, is quite a characte

The final straw or walk was well-written and there's also rich in Theme and Imagery.
It read well and Flowed well with no Grammar Issues.
...
Adjective and Objective Contents were both Excellent and Exceptional while Descriptive Measures aligned.
Thanks,
Doctor Ricky 1024

You created a very comforting goodbye. Two of my neighbors just had to bid farewell to their dogs. You description of Bea finding peace after the reassurance of Scruffles' safe passage to the Rainbow Bridge is very thoughtfully done.

Bea and Sweet Puppy woke to sounds of rain at the mouth of their cave home where Scruffle used to sit. As it struck the ground, music of deep sadness was created
I try not to just copy phrases but I am impressed at the philosophy contained in a simple story for children. Philosophy that they can grasp and understand:

A) There was no purpose in staying just being sad and angry. They agreed it was time to do a strolling exercise even if three was now two. As they deliberately moved one foot in front of the other, they left the spot open where the large raccoon cat would walk.

B) If we make new memories which are happy, they might help to replace our bad memories. She didn't think it would show wisdom to cover them over, they would still be buried in the memory dumpsters.

I felt the 'music of deep sadness' and the recognition that the rain falling on the ground can truly sound and feel exactly like that.

Beautiful ideas, enjoyable to read, Liz!

Now, if only we, as adults could learn to apply the lessons...
It's great to see them taught to children in a way they are most likely to remember..
Thank you for the kind thoughts!

What a sad heartbreaking chapter. Poor Bee trying to deal with the sickness the best that she can. It's well-written very interesting. You really made us connect, have empathy for your character. I love how you explain all their actions with exercises. Nicely done.

This was sad for me especially when I know it is real for you. I think we all write from our real selves as you do with Bea and your life experiences. My recent novella has truth intertwined with fiction, but all of it was very real to me, even my fictional characters!!
Sending you my best today as always,
Sally xo
