Oh how I love the image you chose. It reminds me almost exactly of our first two sons and the little car they played with - or of my two older brothers and the little scooter they used. Those childhood friends are eternally special. I miss them. You've stated well your thoughts.

Thank you Gail, this is a devotional to my lost brother. I was lucky to find this picture in the FS files.

Hi Cal,
I don't often give out sixes but, today you get one. I felt and loved every word of this. Friendships such as you've described here do not happen often. Usually there is some ultimatum in the background. Here I felt nothing but respect and love. Well done you! xoxo Kiwi

Wow, thank you for the sixer!! I seem to remember you from Australia? Been gone a while, wrote this one in a dream(really!) and had to write.

Bravo. I think this is a wonderful poem that spans many years. How many of us remember friends, especially those that struggled, and wonder fondly how they turned out? Cheers.

Childhood's epiphanies come back throughout life's dolorous lost and suffering lived experiences which go on living and let us become stronger, challenging and mature. It has been beautifully penned and well described throughout its rhymed ballad stanzaic layout and consequential life phases narrative story lined content.I loved your "head held high ragged clothes boy" ! I could feel him being myself emigrant as he was at school in his worn out dressing and self proudness .May God bless you from Italy. Tony

What a wonderful and well versed poem. Loved the rhyme and particularly the rhythm. The theme was a tearjerker to say the least. So glad I came across this tonight.

I loved this. Friendships we make as children can create a bond that lasts a lifetime. I can't help but think that this friend of yours thought of you often in his lifetime. You were a friend when others weren't. That says a lot about you too!

Thank you for your kind review and all those stars! You are right, my friend and I were both from the "wrong side of the tracks," and that helped us bond together for life.

A beautiful tribute to your brother. I am sorry for your loss. And I thank him for his service! I look at the picture you have chosen to go with your picture and think of things in their lives.
Great job!

This is so very beautiful. It deeply touched me to learn of this man through your writing and of his courage in dealing with a very rough early life. This stanza is most moving for me:
'I stand in silence, wreath in hand,
no mourners now, no service band.
I know I'll never love another
as I did my hero, my soul's lost brother.
Absolutely terrific!

What a moving story! The picture was the perfect choice for this poem. It feels like childhood had died when they did, but their hero will always remain in their heart. Thank you! I really enjoyed reading this poem.

A sad poem about a childhood friend who did not have a very good life. He left his family early and you had him in your mind all these years. You cared about him.
