This is a very nice and very well written poem you have penned for the Poem of the Month contest. You used very good descriptive words and very nice imagery from the art work you chose. Best wishes in the contest! Blessings, Teri

I found this in your portfolio, irish, needing one more review to reach All-Time Best status. I think we all have old friends and heroes who remain close even they're lost from our world, drifting amid the wake we leave behind. These memories, though fragile in one sense, have the tensile strength of braided steel.
Come on, brother, write some more.

Peace, Lee

Your friend is looking down upon you smiling. He's proud of you. This is a well crafted, very raw emotion, piece. Great job and I wouldn't change a thing.

    Thank you for reading in-depth, and all the stars! Was always annoyed at the way we celebrate and commemorate our sports hero's but forget about those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Your poetic skills are on full display in this poem Cal, I was so caught up in the story, I couldn't stop reading until I reached the end, Each verse told another part of the story and a little bit more was revealed about the main character, your soul brother. I really enjoyed reading this! I don't get to the site much, but hope to do better this year. My faulty memory is to blame, I think. I just keep forgetting how much I enjoy it. Anyway, I'm so glad I found this story/poem today,

    Gee, thank you so much for your kind, in-depth review, and all those stars!! Amazing that this actually came to me in a dream and I wrote it out the next morning, sent it to a life-time friend of mine for finishing touches, and found that picture that was a story in itself.
    So glad to hear from you and I hope you find time to visit and post more often!

It is not surprising I guess, that I should love this poem. What is perhaps surprising is that it took me so long to let you know. It is only because I have had twenty-seventeen unexpected interruptions. But today I ran away from home, like your courageous friend, and I am writing this on my phone. I want you to know it is heart-touching and vivid and inspiring and a strong example of why you should write more often. I hope you will be able to do so soon! I love seeing your posts. You really have a talent for creating easy to see scenes that draw the reader right into the story. Please give us more of your creative stories.

    Thank you so much for your kind and in depth review, all those stars!!! And most of all, your help and encouragement. In the coming months, with re-retirement on the horizon, I will hopefully be able to refine and post some of the more than one-hundred stories I have started.

Very well constructed;
The way it rolls along off the tongue, and your allusions to being young as compared to the lifetime that goes in between then and now.
The flow and meter ar excellent, as is the rhyming.

    If you can't think of anything, try those acrostics with the names of your family members. people like that type of thing as a gift. also it's a way to train a writing to have a logical progression with a limited number of variables, sometimes difficult. I started doing it naturally when I think of people's names while I'm wherever my mind starts to make these acrostics.

There's a nice sing-song lilt to the music of this poem, contrasting with the rather solemn, sober tone of the voice, looking back at a long lost friend who gave his life in the service of his country. The contrast serves to deepen and widen the mood of the poem, showing happiness alongside sadness, like clouds on a sunny day. I think the image of the white crosses on the graves at the end was a strong, poignant symbol of the person lost to death and a whole relationship taken away in that death. The musical elements of the poem reminded me a little of early Yeats, something like The Cap and Bells. estory

    Wow, thank you so much for the kind and in-depth review, and the stars! AS with all my writing, this poem was a story from my life. Actually visited Arlington two year ago, believe that was the inspiration for this work.

This is one of the best poems I've read in a long time. It is amazing how you always remember that boy. Some children stay in our hearts and minds forever, especially the ones who never had a chance. This poem is written so beautifully and in such a heartfelt way. Thank you so much for sharing this poem with us.

    Hello, Therese, Thank you so much for your kind and in-depth review, and the massive constellation of stars! Tom had a terrible childhood and I was always amazed at his courage and the way he overcame the bitterness and turned it into the spirit of giving.
