This is a lovely poem about finding the old hymnal that brought back such precious memories. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I picked up one small glitch:
my curiosity peaks - spelling - piques
Cheers

Hi Mike. This is really nice. I enjoyed reading this well done poem. There is one typo to fix here:
"she smiles
when i start to look
her books are hymnal's (hymnals)"
I am assuming it is purposeful for you to use small "i" for I and I'm.

Your poem brought back so many great memories.
A yard-sale of books is a very enticing yard-sale!! Much more intriguing than mere clothes!
Best of luck in the Faith Poetry Contest contest.

What a beautiful story poem! I like how you took a simple yard sale trip and showed us how connecting to an old hymnal touched the narrator's heart and reconnected him to the Lord. Best wishes in the contest!
"her books are hymnal's" (hymnals) just a plural here

Mike, This is a wonderful post you have penned about he old hymnal. It took me back in years when I was on the road singing gospel music at little churches like this with the Calvary Trio. That trio is the uncle and aunt that I just wrote about. We sang at many dinners at those kind of little churches. Thank you so much for sharing this my friend. See we don't live too far from Milan and that area. May God bless you and your wife. Teri

I'm with you - head for the books - and hoorah for the old hymns, the old churches, the memories of times past. The new music - in church - is often just repetative lines, hard to sing, with little meaning. The pendulum swings too wide.
Oh well - those times may come again.
Good poem

Hello Mike. What a beautiful thought of looking at old Hymnals and realizing the Godly message never changes. I remember as a boy looking at Hymnals and the first page was the song: Holy Holy Holy, (Lord God Almighty) It is not the first in our new Hymnals.

I love your story poem, Mike, and I understand the content and how you felt. I would give anything to be able to visit my home church and hear my father leading the choir singing all those sacred hymns. They are some of my favorite ones as well. To hear my favorite pastor preach fire and brimstone with his booming voice with the tears running down his cheeks. I remember it all with love. God bless you as well. Nancy:)

This is great! I remember all of those old hymns too. He walks with me and He talks with me and He tells me I am His own. And the words we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known!!
Now you've got me started! LOL
God bless!

This is a really lovely and moving poem. It is vividly descriptive of a memorable experience that led to a reawakening of faith. Some lines are nostalgia at its best.
