I retired in my sixties and now in my seventies, I am returning to work with the Census. Retirement is for lazy people If you want a long life work even it is just writing on fanstory and doing your own housework. I recently read of a greeter at McDonalds 102 he started at 82.

Lots of lively writing here with plenty of personality. I liked how you described the nagging questions of kids and space and juggling all the financials, that keep us in this air of uncertainty, the trepidations we feel in contemplating retirement homes and co-op apartments. Told with wit and humor, I think it's a great essay. But before you go and move in to a public space, I think you should Tenants in my port. LOL estory

Hello Iza. I like your review of life and the idea of thinking about a retirement home. I laughed when your story considered moving into one in the 40s. I laughed because my son is 47. I was thinking, if he goes oh, what am I going to do. It's a good story Iza, I enjoyed reading it.

I don't know whether I would have liked to live in a life style village when I was in my forties, my kids were only 12 and 9 when I was fifty, so we wouldn't have been able to move their educational facilities. But beautifully written Iza, a great idea though, getting used to communal facilities, but yet independent living, well done, blessings, Roy
Typo : How we human(s) think. 2 : one hell of (a) vacation. 3 being small and (depended) independent? 4: live in a retire(ment) home. 5 here(,) it's (up) to you...6 : move in (it) and (leave) live? P

Puleeze - not a retirement home when you're not even fifty. There are so many years ahead of you. But your post sure does ring a bell with us seniors. Downsizing is the current buzz word - and we don't do it well. Can't imagine living in two rooms. Besides we have four sons and lots of grandkids who come back to visit and often stay over. No cats.
Good take on the whole subject - i think our "big" houses have been necessary cuz of our family size and often we housed others, like college students. So true, your story. Well done. (did you mean dying, rather than "dyeing")

Hi Gail. thank you for stopping by and diving in this silly story. I am scared because my husband didn't want any kids so we end up with cats... so old age is scary for me...

I love your amusing story. Our kids are grown up and we are thinking of downsizing, lol. Grammar correction, humans not human----When we are young and want to be comfortable and have a family, we chase after a bigger car and a bigger home,---so we started small------- I see Not I am seeing. ------- old age lass longer than youth.-----dependant-------------in your forties-----dying no e-----I hadn't considered retirement when I was a youth. -----view not prospect. I hope this helps, all the best, Laura.

You make such a poignant point here that we are old for longer than we are young! We hang onto youth, but the truth is, it only lasts a relatively short time. Planning for a good retirement is wise and many leave it too late. My neighbour never put money into a pension and now she has nothing and had to leave the neighbourhood. Your story is funny but also has a serious meaning too, good luck with your arrangements, love Dolly x

This short piece is lighthearted, with an underlying message.
Yes, after 50 we realize that we need to downsize, but it's almost too late. What to do with everything we've accumulated over the many years?
Well told.

This is a wonderful perspective you have chosen to write about. It is so true people spend so many years going big, only to turn around and go small later. And kids, i have some, but the days of the 8 kids per house is long gone! you are absolutely right about them being a luxury these days! Well done, my friend! xoxo

It really is! I told my kids (after borrowing money to them), just remember you may have to take care of me later down the road! haha! They haven't borrowed since :) xoxo

That's such an interesting point of view because it's so true, many people can relate to this. I really enjoyed reading this, it's wonderfully written and makes one thing which I like.
