Hi Jaybird. Like the words in this poem showing the relationship between a husband and wife. I've always believed that marriage is not a 50-50 proposition, it is 100% commitment. You show that in the poem.

What a lovely poem! Marriage is sunshine and rain and give and take, but with the love of God and strong commitment to each other, love prevails. Surely the way God intended. Thank you for sharing!

I think this is a lovely verse telling of the partnership that makes a great marriage.
It's sad that a woman in this relationship would have to be labeled as a liberated wife. This should just be the norm in my opinion.
Well written and well said.

Any relationship involves give and take. The ability to adjust to the needs of the other is crucial. As long as it's mutually beneficial, it will last. That's what marriage is all about - freedom to be ourselves.

Well said - and yes, God designates the man to be head of the household. I'm glad of that - some things (as a wife) I cannot do or figure out - I appreciate that I have this covering of husband - but also he is fine with me being who I am.
A good life - a liberated life.
Thanks for sharing this thought.

It's very true, Jay... the one thing that people tend to overlook about the 'old ways' is that insofar as men were the ones who worked and women stayed home and did the 'cooking and cleaning' etc... it was a system that worked for the whole family. Parents could help each other, they had time for each other. They had time for the children too. Kids felt cared for instead of having to be put aside in place of working to pay the bills. Life got a lot harder when things got more expensive. Kids fell by the wayside, relationships between parents fell by the wayside, people started getting divorced... the center did not hold...

Here, here. I really like the third stanza "My friends think I'm submissive...We walk the married road, perhaps the way God surely meant." These words ring so true for me as my hubby and I share a bond in marriage that many don't understand. My husband often says that he is the leader but only because I allow him to lead and that's because he is following God. Thanks for this piece, I enjoyed reading it.

This is a fitting tribute to a successful marriage. You point out here that the term "liberated" can mean different things to different people. It is a point of interest that the speaker is the woman.

Well, you know the saying--behind every successful man is a woman. I enjoyed your poem, Jay. Your lines read well with great imagery and message. Marriage is a partnership. I agree with your words. Working together is the way to be happy with a happy family. Thanks for sharing. Respectfully, Jan
