An interesting piece. I hope we don't get hung up on writing for the rankings. If one is busily writing two poems a day, he or she may rise in the rankings, but that is no guarantee their work is going to be of the best quality. I see a few professional writers winning contest after contest on FS story and wonder why they're still here if they've already attained their goals. It's fine to want to improve and win contests, but the main goal should still be writing for enjoyment. Congratulations on that flash fiction win, by the way. Great thoughts in this, and I may write my response. judi

Thanks, Judi. Someone else said the same and I hadn't thought of people interpreting things that way. Great point. I guess I need to add a note. *smile*

I didn't chase any of these things last year. In previous years, I did and it adversely effected the quality of my writing. I discovered that the way to increase your rating is simply to post more work regardless of whether or not it was good or trash. I found myself writing not because I had something to say, but because I needed to post something. There are some members who post two things everyday, most of it throwaway in quality.

Yeah, I agree. I added a note about that.

I mean, I try to post on here. It's just hard to get on enough to get enough money to post. I'll be posting soon, like today or tomorrow. I usually do good in the beginning of the year and then fall off. Mainly because summer is crazy and them once we get to the holidays I'm just overwhelmed with everything. I'm going to pass on this one, though I do love them. Honestly, my ranking is so sad. LOL! I'm not mad, just nothing to brag about. My hat goes off to you my friend as I know what it takes to get to where you are. Every year I try to be a better me, less meltdowns, less saying things I wish I hadn't, being a better wife, friend, daughter, etc. I think we should all be setting attainable goals and I loved how you reminded us of that. I read somewhere where a lady needed to clean. Someone told her to clean for 15 minutes a day. Nothing more. Even if she wanted to do more, not to. Once you start spending two hours doing it then you get in the mindset you have to do it all the time. Just 15 minutes a day and eventually she got caught up and it only took 15 minutes a day after that. I loved it. What a great reminder to keep it all achievable.

Yep. There's a website tells you about cleaning like that. I forget what it is. It says just clean your sink everyday and clean for 15 minutes. Thanks!

It always sounds so easy...but then I work 8 hours, come home to cook, dishes and laundry...and then I'm just too tired. The holidays are over and I'm getting better. Until the next set of holidays that are all in a row. lol

Thank you for sharing. I would love to set a goal for more reviewing and more writing, but unfortunately, I would only get frustrated because my paying job gets in the way. Just yesterday the teachers at my school were added additional responsibility and I have no clue how or when that's going to happen.

haha I get it. Our hopes and dreams and goals don't always align. That's one of the reasons I chastised folks about staying realistic. I used to be in a Direct Marketing Business and I was amazed at what some of those ladies were doing... mostly newbies. They would set the most ridiculous goals. I TRIED to explain to them - that's great... SHORT term. But you cannot LIVE those kinds of goals for an extended time - not with a hubby and kids and still have a life. But they chirrupped on cheerfully and doggedly, pursuing their own way. Undeterred. And guess what? Unsurprisingly, they burned out after only a wee bit.

You're a smart lady. I like that. *smile* Thanks!

This work has reached the exceptional level

I don't really set goals, I find crossing the lines between goals and statistics just muddles my, I'm a writer who just writes, there's my main goal, to get my head around my faith, the second is there are so many things that inspire, all relate to what gives me life, I'm not in a single club, I don't have a goal that I'm consciously aware, just what keeps me alive, sorry Robyn - not very helpful I'm afraid, when I first joined I'd already been victim to "goals" but I learned not have them, and my proliferation exploded. Well done though, blessings, Roy

Well. Hm. You're a precious thing, Roy, and I adore you. But I'm trying to figure out what the wonderful six is for. *smile* Don't get me wrong - I love it. But I'm wondering if it was a mistake.

I love setting goals -- but then I'm a carrot girl at heart. Dangle a carrot or goodie in front of me and it's amazing what will happen. Kinda crazeee, actually. hahaha

    Thanks, my buddy!

This is a very different and unusual piece which sets out to help the reader evaluate his or her progress as a creative writer. It gives tips on how to rev up the process. I enjoyed reading it.

Fantastic to get to know you better, dear Robin. Thanks for this wonderful quiz and I hope to join in shortly. I appreciate you extending southern hospitality with your kindness and encouragement. FanStory is my social ,edia at present. I'm working on Facebook as we speak. I think they are having trouble with my sunglasses being blind. :(

Sending you my best today as always,

Will do. I have it in edit. What The Blind Girl Saw Epilogue aired today and I'm exhausted. Early in the week, promise. I have it 80 percent finished. I love this kind of stuff. Thanks again!! Sal xo

This is interesting in that I started halfway through the calendar year. So setting goals to move up didn't really occur to me, just being consistent. I like how you emphasize the need to edit and cut. I am likely to ramble on roughdrafts. Comedy makes more sense to me, that one ought to be aiming for a laugh at least every four lines. How kind of you to include a link for punctuating dialogue. Thanks for posting.
